'Allot' is a word. 'Alot' is not.

Noone would dispute that alot is used quite a lot. It seems words do and will change in langues that are still alive. Somebody, nobody, etc. were likely, some one, no body.

Correct. As words are misused they end up becoming actual words.

A lot usage doesn't bother me. There, they're, their misuse does. I can read right through many grammar issues but often have to reread posts with "there" used for all to attempt to discern what the poster is attempting to say.
