Good replies to the original post. My wife went ballistic when I told her 21 years ago I wanted a small 4x4 tractor and backhoe. Last year WE decided to trade it in for a new one. We both agreed, it's time. If you have property you cannot afford not to have one. Paid $14,500 for the first tractor and had it for 20 years, dealer allowed me $10,500 on a trade in, what's not to like. ($4,000 / 20yrs = $200.00 per year to have my first tractor).

The secret is work alot of overtime and DON'T ask. After it comes home it is too late to complain. I have had many old corvettes and GTO's follow me home. Some are keepers, others pay the college bills and related expenses. Currently only have a 4110 jd, New TC 55DA New Holland, IH Cub, D-15 Allis, Melroe Bobcat, and a 20 hp Bolens for tractors. I have to double stack the cars or everything will be outside shortly. Life is too short to be deprived. Money in the bank is just paper, machines are value and alot of fun.
Good luck on the negotiations.

Still no tractor and still have the wife.....No one would take her as a trade in. Seeing that new baby will be here in June, dealers told me that it would be too much maint...... :)

Seems like Bobcat is having some good deals but looks like tractor is pushed back until Sept at a minimum, when the wife goes back to work. Thanks for all the replies.

Make a deal with the wife. What does she like to buy/look at? I spend many boring hours at malls and she spends a few at country fairs / tractor dealers. She loves to drive my tractors and Cub Big Country. You just need to get her involved in some projects so she sees how hard it is.

She loves green tractors and most of mine are blue. I think I'll het her a little green one to mow the lawns ;)

It took trading in a wife ...lol, but I now have 5 tractors, a dump truck and a 44,000 lbs excavator... all basically toys The new wife thinks I only need one tractor so we bought a second farm... I agree with her that the excavator has to go :D

Hide it in a green tent on the back of the property or under a brush pile.. :D

As for the question regarding attachments, there are differences among them. They start out at Cat 0 and go up to Cat 3, with 0 the smallest and 3 the largest. There is a website somewhere that lists the dimensions of the different hitch sizes. The majority of implements are Cat 1. Not sure when size Cat 2 comes into play, but usually up around 70hp or more maybe?? Someone here should be able to tell us.

Good luck.

Actually they go at least as large as Cat 4 as defined in the following standards:

Applies to categories 2, 3 and 4 of agricultural wheeled tractors as defined in ISO 730-1 and ISO 730-3.

See ISO 730-1:1994 - Agricultural wheeled tractors -- Rear-mounted three-point linkage -- Part 1: Categories 1, 2, 3 and 4

Ok, so a little progress is getting made.....

The wife can't understand having 2 tractors, anyways, the local dealer has a used tractoe (can't remember the model, but previuos model to current 2520) with a finishing mower. I believe the year is 2004 and hours are 600. Any thougts on used cost? Buying used from dealer VS. private? ETC?

Thanks
