That's a good game, and I'd wager that Paul could assemble the new rig faster than the dealership could.

Actually not much to it but you need a couple of guys for the task.

Is the Mid Mount Mower coming with the L5740 too, if so what size is it?

Get us some pics when it's together.

Nope, no mower going on it. That just happened to be there at the time i snapped the photo. Will add photos later though.

Man, I couldn't wait until snow to use that thing. I love the 5740; one of my favorite tractors.

Ya I know what you mean. If it gets to bad of a wait I'll build a snow making machine  I've always liked the Grand L series tractors and especially the 5740 as well.

I like those wheel weights. I keep meaning to get down to the dealer to price them out but haven't made it yet. I'm going to have to soon though as I need to decide to either fill the tires or go with weights.

I went with the weights because I didn't want the fuss of fluid In the tires plus with the weight of the blower back there it should be plenty of weight for the new snow bucket. Fluid is much cheaper though.

You are gonna love that grapple sitting next to your wheels !! ;)

Not mine sir. Wouldn't have a use for it. Nice looking bucket all the same.

Paul, is that a 4 in 1 bucket.
Bill

Sure looks like it Bill. There was so much stuff sitting around It was hard to see it all plus it was raining at the time. I snapped an ran

Once you get it I would love to know how much of a difference you notice between the two tractors.

Once you get it I would love to know how much of a difference you notice between the two tractors.

I remember starting a cabbed 5740 last year at the dealership and as soon as it started I could hear the differance in the engines. The 5740 seemed much more peppier but just may have been my imagination. The 5740 has 50 HP at the PTO with stall guard so I think that's really where it will shine. Also traveling up a steep grade with a load of snow the 4240 would drop off on the speed so I think the 5740's extra HP's will help in that department.
Now don't get me wrong.
The 4240 was a fantastic machine and I loved every minute I spent in the cab. Wanting the 5740 is me being greedy I guess plus the fact that I owned the 4240 and all my snow clearing is taxed so by getting the 5740 I can write it off as an expense. The dealer gave me such a good price for my 4240 I could hardly let it slip by. The 4240 could do everything I asked of it. I can only hope the 5740 will be as good. I'll give you an honest opinion of the 5740 when I get it fitted out and get to use it in some real heavy snow.

I hope you will do as you did with the 4240....give us a blow by blow of the farkeling/mods. I really enjoyed that and I'm sure most do.

I run a front mount blower for the snow and I'm not sure if it's HP or just the design of the snow blower but if the snow is the same height as the blower I have to go in low low often stopping to let the blower clear itself out. It doesn't happen often and I think it's the blower as the engine doesn't slow down much. Everything else I do extra HP would just be wasted. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't want it.

I'd be curious as to how much you notice the power, I'm sure the 15 pto hp will be easy to see with some attachments. How much extra fuel you use, just a real world differences between the two.

I sure will. It's great to hear some say they enjoy seeing this stuff :). I'll do the same with the new machine and even a few new items added to it ;) thanks for posting.

The issue your having with your blower is normal. In your case I don't think it has anything to do with HP but more to do with capacity. There's only so much snow that can be moved by the impeller at a time. Kind of like having to many people trying to walk through a door opening at a time. You have to go slow or you end up pushing it.
On my 4240 the rear mower have bogged down from time to time but the snow was soaking wet and heavy so anything would have acted the same way.
As far as fuel consumption went the 4240 was great. I could get a full 8 hours out of a tank of fuel. I'm thinking the 5740 will be as good or even better because with the extra HP and basically the same frame ( aprox 250 lbs heavier) the 5740 won't have to work as hard.
An example of that is our new 412 HP Mustang. Saturday we took a drive that we usually take in our Ford Focus. Before we left we fueled up the Mustang, did the same three hour drive and returned to refuel. The Mustangs fuel consumption was the same or just a tad less than we could have done it for in the Focus and the Mustang isn't even broke in yet with 650 km's on the odometer. Now to be fair it's not all the extra power on the Mustang doing it either. The six speed tranny has a lot to for with it as well. At highway speeds the average RPM's were around 1500 or less.
It's my opinion that If you want a tractor that can handle both big and small jobs in the Kubota Grand L series the 4240 is the best that's out there.
