I like that!

I googled this up, it appears to be penned by Douglas Adams, he deserves credit.

Biggerten -- it appears you are right -- you might also like this one by the same author:eek::eek:

Just changed one on my naa 2 weeks ago.. did it like i said i do it. slip it between a fan blade and the shroud. havn't hit one on any of my tractors that wouldn't work that way.

So far I'm getting quite a long time on belts. generally when i get a refurb/restore tractor in and i change the belt.. I don't have to do it again.. going on 10ys on some of them. Have only changed one twice and that one was right at 10ys old.. and I lost a top rad hose and replaced it, and the belt got soaked and wanted to squeal even after being cleaned with alcohol.. so I poped a spare on and threw in in a bag of kitty litter to see f it will dry it up a bit.

I expect long life on these belts... most of the tracors I get to work on have belts that look likee the are original.. or have been on multiple decades.. it's funny to see the ones that are so wore down that they are about 1/4" cross-section!

and yes.. I have horses.. and you can make them drink.. just got to provide the correct incentive...

What does your Fords have to do with Chinese Tractors? I mean I have a 861 Ford and the very little I have learned from that tractor has to do with my Chinese Tractor. Its like a GM mechanic telling me how to work on my Nissan or Ford. Yes, I would go them for the Saturn I own. Yes, the basics are the same but little things are very much different. GM is the worst at this. I have had to take the valve cover off to change the wiper motor on a GM car. Stupid engineering is seen every where. On GM 4x4 trucks with 5.3 engines you have to pull the motor to swap the rack and pinion. Would it be better if you did not have to remove parts to change others? Heck ya. Is it always that way, no!

So back to the link belt. This is a way to solve this issue on this particular case on this particular tractor. End of story. And in the end he got a better belt and can now change it in 5 minutes if needed. Let this one die!!!

Chris

perhaps you need to backup and re-read the entire thread.

the original issue 'died' quite a few posts ( and days ) back where it was revealed the china tractors cme up with such a poor design that 100% neccesitated removing lots of parts or going to a more expensive link belt in order to replace it.. that was acknowledged many posts / days ago.

now we had moved on to other discussions.. for instance.. someone brough up me chaning a belt.. I replied.. etc.

Wholly concur. Belt preference and application - whether conventional V or the newer link type - has been parried and thrusted to death quite some time ago.

What i am saying is many products are designed stupid. Take a Government Motors (GM) Yukon 4x4 with a 5.3L engine. My co worker has one and the power steering was acting up. Had to remove the engine to replace a $200 rack and pinion. Cost him about $800 because of all the labor.

My sister had a Pontiac and the heater motor went out. Had to remove a bunch of stuff like the alternator, power steering pump, valve cover to get at it. Another stupid design but thats life.
