I do believe you should install a block heater or lower radiator hose heater. I would invest in a small Honda generator for those times when you have no power close. I'd never subject my tractor to cold, dry starts in the winter.

Unless you crank your engine over a couple of minutes before starting you are in effect try starting your engine as far as oil flow I use 100 percent synthetic oil ..have no problem with oil flow...? ....

Yes, it certainly appears that you know your Tractor and are not a stranger to winter headaches. Hope you get it figured out.

Have no doubt That I will , never seen this before during all my years with diesels ... just thought maybe someone here might have an ideal as to what causing this being this is a LS tractor form. ... Some good ideals but so far none has located the issues ....

Alternator spins free also no noise ... Alternator shouldn't get hot when starting engine.

Doing some brainstorming here:

I suspect a bad alternator bearing that doesn't show problems except after a certain degree of side load. Maybe this will work without taking it to a shop to be tested.

Take the belt off the alternator. Put it back on the alternator pulley only with the rest hanging off the side of the tractor. Hold both sides of the belt and pull hard on it back and forth to spin alternator a bit with a strong side load on the bearings.

Or if you can rig up a rubber wheel in an electric drill, use it to spin the alternator while side loading it.

What size is your alternator? 50-60 amp or 100+.
If you are pulling the battery way down and then the alternator is maxing out, it would be pulling hard.
Is your alternator pulley polished or glazed?
Is your belt the right width for the pulley? I have seen belts that were to narrow and would run in the bottom of the pulley, if they do they have very limited power transfer, they need to grip the sides of the pulley. If it has a half inch wide belt try a 5/8 width one.

Sorry for the typos dang phone keyboard to small
Do believe you may very well be on to something....

If a belt is too small even if it's set to 'factory tension' it will slip under load, it requires the squeeze of a V groove to create friction, and the groove has 2X the amount of surface area that the bottom of the pulley has, so a wider belt may well cure the issue, I've actually seen this on mower decks where folks have replaced with the correct length belt but too narrow and it will smoke in heavy grass load.

Just got a call back from dealer , factory rep thinks it's the air pump , kind of doubt it being it's not driven by this belt ,will check to be sure , if it was locked parts from it's belt could have damage the fan /alternator belt..seems they have history of getting water in them and locking up when below freezing......
