Air pump had slipped , alternator checked out electrically bearings could still be bad ...next step is to wait for some clod weather and have someone start the tractor while I watch the pump and alternator pulleys ....marked both with paint pen ..waiting on some old weather...when all else fails return to the basics

Short story on the antifreeze. The guy was running straight water and antirust for a while during early fall. A sudden cold snap came one night. He over heated. Ice had formed in the pump. Pulley turned, shaft turned, impelled didn't. Sounded a little similar to your cold weather problem.

I'd pull the alternator off, or at least the belt, and see if there is any wobble to the shaft and that it turns easily.
Done that. Just back from John Deere they say my radiator is the problem

Only have trouble in cold weather , check with a mechanic ,he thinks something is breaking down in the alternator when dips below freezing , LS has sent me a replacement ...going to install and send the old one to a local repair shop for a full rebuild an see if they can locate the problem.....got to love LS some other brands would have left me holding the bag.....

Hopefully, this will solve your cold weather starting problem. Very odd problem, to say the least. Glad LS is stepping up.

When the belt is slipping get a IR temp gauge and see what pulley is hot. If it is the alternator I would suspect you have some sort of short that is causing the field to be on full at crank. How is that air pump driven? When it won't crank loosen the belt and see if it starts. Then check each pulley to see what is tight. Might be tight only under a load of a bearing is going and binding when a side load is applied but I would think you would feel some roughness. If you think it is the alternator you can pull the connector to the back as well to se if that changes anything

Great news. Please keep us posted on what they find.

Alternator and water pump are on a common belt .
Air pump his it's own belt
The air conditioning pump has its own belt also and all tree are a diffent size....

Hah, have followed this discussion.
I'd venture a wild guess that the cold shrinks a bushing in the alternator to the point of seizure.
OK, a wild guess but for sure a possibility.

Only 2 things run on that belt. Alternator and water pump and you eliminated the pump.
What else could burn up a belt? also the new alternator now runs OK.

So, sounds like a good polishing of the alternator shaft and or reaming of the bushing would cure the problem.
Generally alternators have a ball bearing at front end with bushing at the rear.

On the positive side it sounds like U have a responsible dealer.
