I took my Kubota L245DT to my local mechanic to have the grease lube and filter change and to have him go over the tractor to make sure that the lights and everything was working for the winter as I use the tractor mostly for blowing snow. Now the alternator does not seem to be working. I tried to start it yesterday and the battery was dead (less than 1 year old) and even after jumping it to start it I was getting so little current to the flashers they were not visible.
It was a good thing it was Sunday as I probably would have ruined a good friendship if I had been able to talk to the owner of the shop who is a good friend of mine.
Any ideas what could have happened while it was in the shop to stop it from working? Was there some sort of test the mecanic should have done? I also had them replace the antifreeze heater but it does not seem to be working either as the heater and lines were covered with ice from the freezing rain, yes I do have power to the end of the extension cord.
thanks all.

Second question.
Does anyone know what output I would need? the dealer could not tell from the part number from the catalog. I would assume I could get a Delco or some other replacement, if I knew the outputs.

Jerome, I don't have any answers for you, and of course from the timing of the thing happening, you assume they did something at the dealer's shop that killed your alternator; a natural assumption, probably correct, but not a sure thing by any means.

On November 2, 1989, the Chevrolet dealer replaced a defective torque converter in my almost new 1989 one ton dually Chevrolet pickup. When they finished, everything appeared normal while it was running on the dealer's lot, but then before hooking up my fifth-wheel trailer there at the dealer's place, I decided to take the truck for a short test drive 4 or 5 miles down the highway. Everything was OK, so I turned around and started back and the alternator went out!

Now I don't know of anything that mechanic could have done to cause the alternator to quick working after driving 5 miles, but anyway, they replaced the alternator under warranty, also, and I never had any more problems.:D

Hi.as for your alternator not working I would check all connections, plug ins wire ends.ect..A connection or wire my of been disturbed while the mechanic was working on your machine.I had a plastic plug that holds 4 wire terminals that one of the terminals got slightly pulled out,it took a while but I found even the plastic plug was melting from being a bad connection.

Ditto what mark said.

Do a static voltage test ont he battery, once you get it charged.. should be like 12.6v.. then start her up.. should be between 13.8 and 15.. but really more like 14.2-14.7 ideally.
