Peek inside at the brushes. If they are worn out then it is a relatively simple DIY fix.

With the tractor being that new I doubt it is the brushes worn. Probably more like a diode de-diodified.

So I checked with the dealer and it is not covered under warranty and a replacement is priced at $440. So the alternator is at an auto electric shop to see if they can get it squared away.

No Luck. The shop can't find parts and can't find a replacement. This Chinese crap is not available anywhere. So it's back to the dealer and their ungodly prices!

I find it hard to believe the mounting points and pulley location is so special that there isn’t something else that fits.

The only thing "special" is how and were the tach signal is picked up

Tach from alternator is pretty common. Was GM and VW common practice.

The shop manual has a couple pages on diagnosis of the windings and rotor, but I don't know if the individual parts are available.
