Always check lug nuts frequently

Bizarre incident. Good tip though, thanks. I always wonder when I see stuff like this whether or not it happened slow over a long time or really quickly.

On trucks around here they often put plastic "triangles" on each wheel stud with all of the triangles lined up in one direction. That way the driver can very quickly see if a lug is loose during his or her circle check.

Not very safe I don't think... it was with an old 2WD Massey 165, don't think I'd try it with a modern 4WD!

My boss ran the Massey 165 diesel while I drove the 135 gasser. On day he was mowing and the left front tire fell off.:eek::eek:

Those 165's most have been a good seller. My wife's grandpa bought one and its still on the farm. I saw one on a trailer this week.

Later,
Dan

that's what people do to get back at someone, except it's usually the front tire of a car. thanks for the info. time to check tractor bolts.

I am hearing more of these loose bolt problems. Is the wheel bolt tapered or flat. the best idea is to use a flat bolt with washers and lock washers to keep your wheel on. Kubota seems to have created a problem inadvertently.

I'm a tad bit suspicious. That many lug nuts gone at the same time and no thread damage?

I would submit that perhaps someone was interrupted trying to steal your wheel and tire.

Yep, happens more often than you think. I had a customer who we had sold a set of steel radials for his truck come back the next morning madder than a hornet, stating we had left the lug nuts loose on one of his tires. Further investigation showed he had stayed at a motel for the night and was a victim of tire theft that was interrupted in the night.

It might be suspicious or it might not. Every time the wheels are removed on my Volvo (car) I have to retighten the lug bolts. The first time this happened we were on the highway driving to the city. A wheel wobbled so bad that one of the lugbolts was missing. This has happened through 3 sets of tires so far.

Oh, and yes they are torqued to specs.

Haven't had a problem with the tractor but I have found slightly loose nuts in routine checks.

My owners manual says to check my wheel bolts every 10 hr or daily.

How 'bout yours ?
