the disconnect sequence is VERY important:D:D

I'm guessing that not following proper procedure will turn the air-tank into a torpedo; am I right ??

Not so much a torpedo, but make a heck of a racket. :D

My procedure:

1: turn off airline from compressor at valve between male quick couplers.
2: disconnect male quick coupler from female qc on tank.
3: disconnect male qc from female qc on compressor hose.

My sequence is a little different. Still the rule is NEVER plug the double male into a pressurized female source. It will become an unregulated non-safety nozzle. Here is my entire fill procedure:
1. Shut the valve on the portable tank.
2. Plug the double male connector into the portable tank quick-connect.
3. Plug the other end of the double male into the pressurized supply female connector.
4. Open the tank valve, wait for the tank to fill.
5. Shut the tank valve.
6. Disconnect the pressurized supply female connector.
7. Remove the double male connector from the tank female connector.

Wow, now that I type it out - 7 steps and a risk of inflating my hand!

I'll have to make a new double male with a regular nozzle valve in the middle. The momentary manual nozzel valve should make it a much safer process.

At work we use the polyurethane tubing with instant push-on fittings.
I have inadvertently mixed 8mm fittings in with the 3/8" ones I was installing. Once pressure is applied - POW the tube slips right out of the 8mm fittings. Color coding would be nice...

For you guys using double-ended male couplings, instead of jumping through hoops every time you use them, why not add a ball-cut-off valve between the two male fittings, thus you can close the valve, attach either quik-couple, then the other, then open the valve.

When finished, just close the valve and un-couple; it doesn't matter which is un-coupled first, as the closed valve prevents the hose beating you near to death.

That's how mine is set up. I have a small valve I salvaged from a Freon can between the male ends. Piece of cake.

After loosing a tank to rust because the drain valve was broken, I coated the inside of my used replacement tank with Extend rust treatment. I put 2 or 3 quarts in the tank (20 gal) and rolled it around to coat the inside then let it drain out. I let it dry a couple of days and filled it with air and completely drained it several times.

I installed an automatic drain valve in the bottom of the tank. It is only on when the compressor is running. I set it to open for 3 seconds every 30 seconds.
