I thought the man was reasonably clear in what he is saying; mainly that he comes from hard working, self sufficient roots and that he is working his azz off trying to make a living...but some of the younger folks seem to have lost that work ethic in favor of "the world owes me a living" philosophy. Take heart KD5, not all the young folks feel that way, there seems to be a core of agressive, intelligent, educated and skilled youngsters out there who want to make a difference. My concern is that it may be too little too late.

It truly is a different world than the one in which I grew up in. Growing up in the 50's and 60's I worked on a couple of hay crews comprised of farm kids as well as some from town. We worked day and night until the job was done, on more than one occasion we worked all night. Now I can't hire anyone to do manual labor on our farms. On the occasions I actually got people to show up all they did was play grab a** and take breaks.

Before I retired, I saw a change in the work force and always had some of the younger employees come whining to me about how much work they had to do. I kept track by work units and everyone put in roughly the same amount.

There are still good, hard working younger people, but someone has to be willing to teach them what hard work is and many parents simply won't take the time to do it. I made sure my sons knew what hard work was even if I had to dream something up and they are much better for it.

Holy crow. I know exactly what the OP meant. I just happen to think its kind of BS. There is a heck of a lot more going on out there in "Real Life Land". Lazy kids existed long before OP was a twinkle in his great grand pappies eye. And although His take on "Youth" is one way to look at things, it certainly is not the only way or even the best way. It's all smacks of a little to much self importance. To be honest, it's nearly a direct quote out of the conservatives list of catch phrases. OP is welcome to his opinion. And I am within my rights to say I think he's being a bit over dramatic. It's one thing to state that the world is going to S HIT in a hurry because today's youth are lazy and shiftless. But it's another thing to believe this as somehow being a major reason. The world may indeed be heading for H Ell in a hand basket. But lots of folks could do well to look to their own contributions, and pay less attention to what everyone else is doing.

I too have had my problems with kids who were not taught how to work so they don't think they have to. One 18 yr was working as my helper doing HVAC and I asked for a pair of vise grips and he picked up 5 or 6 tools out of a small tool bag before he said I don't know what they look like. I had to climb down off of my ladder and tell him the names of all the tools in my bag. The next day we could not find him and they found him sleeping. He made some excuse and seemed to think all was well. Kingdelta5 I know how you feel, and that was only one of several. What scares me is what will happen if true hard times come like our moms and dads knew?

Many kids have been to spoon feed and to many others come from a legacy of career welfare manipulator s. The spoon fed crowd feel that manual labor is beneath them and the other crowd would starve if you hid the book of food stamps under their work boots. It is only going to continue to get worse...it always does. I believe the decline is now in the speed lane instead of the right lane. Mainly because of the rapid growth of the government dependant deadbeats.
