I find there are many great young people out there. I know some grew up with doping parent(s) and made the choice not to blow their lives living that way. The ones that have/had a strong father figure in their life when they were growing up perform the best in my experience.

Maybe I have a built in radar but I can't recall the last time someone that I have wanted to hire didn't pass a drug test. I recall a time in 2006, but that was the last.

I am slightly biased but my 23 year old son can work circles around most more mature guys. When not at work really enjoys his time off but definitely has the ethic.

No one is denying there are many great young people, all of my kids are hard workers as are most of my grandchildren old enough to work, one granddaughter is carrying 18 credit hours and working, it just "seems" to many of us that many of the younger generations don't have the same work ethic as the older generations.

It "seems" to me that there is a change in generations, my parents worked harder and sacrificed more than I and my kids less so than I and so on. As we tend to get our work ethic from our parents, the decline may well be each generation swearing, as I did, "I want my kids to have it better than I". It is also, if it exists, a result of the changing economy, lack of entry level or low skills temporary jobs etc.

It could also just be an illusion of us older guys, old oaken bucket syndrome. Or as mentioned by others the continuation of the older generation ragging on the next generation for no good reason.
