SteveH,
Remember US$2000 ~ C$2700 with current exchange rates. It still doesn't quite get you to the 6k-7k C$ that was mentioned, but is quite a bit more, add in the Canadian Value Added Tax and you could be pretty close. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It gets worse (and I don't think the States will ever get this bad)... I'm still currently employed ( for how long I don't know, mind you do any of us?) I made a good wage last year but I paid over 35% of my gross wage into tax and then over 2K into other goverment programs.. And with the silly government they just elected (I didn't vote for the idiot) they are suggesting that they are going to put a meter on my well and charge me for my water... It's bad enough we pay the equivalent of $2.20 US for a gallon of cheap gas and most of that is tax... You folks get to claim the interest on your mortgage as a tax deduction... We have to pay it with after tax dollars and don't get any benefit from that ( my mortgage costs me about 320 a week!)

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Do I read your post correctly??? They want to put a meter on your well? Cripes, pretty soon they'll be outfitting you with a respirator mask so they can tax the air you breath. I think the well taxation idea would bring on a 2nd revolution down here. If you're upset I sure can't blam you.

They haven't gone so far as suggesting it for the regular folk yet but they have apparently installed meters on some business wells and golf courses... Oh and they rezoned maple syrup farms from farming to industrial and taxed them accordingly ( about 300% increases) This is Ontario home of the Dalton McGuinty liberals who made 7 election promises and have scrapped all but one....

Wow - I don't know what to say - I really enjoy going to Canada (PEI mostly) but I'm not sure I can afford to live there now! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Somebody's got to pay for national health care. All these ideas sound great until somebody has to foot the bill. Here in Virginia the state loves to pass "feel good laws" and then make them state mandated, and guess who has to pay for them? The localities. Being a commonwealth, the cities are seperate from the counties so each city has to pay it's own way. Of course when the state mandates that you have to have certian programs but doesn't give the cities the money, taxes or assesments go up. Then people leave the cities for the cheaper county taxes and a vicious cycle is created.

Oh yeah, to keep this tractor oriented, get another dealer.

Don't be surpised, in the not to distant future, that your state may do exactly this. It's been pondered around for a while but the government will eventually try to do this very thing. As you know, all surface and underground water belongs to the state. Even a pond that you spent your hard earned money building, the water isn't yours.
