Best thing is to research the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Laws.

The sections (Chapter 14) on securing the load seem rather vague to me. But it's interesting to note the definitions of "trailer" and "semitrailer" as well as the differences between a "truck" and a "vehicle" in Chapter 1.

Since you are operating as a commercial entity, it's doubtful that any of the farm exemptions would apply.

wasnt going for any farm exemptions just saying they might be a little more laxed than some places due to all the farm billy's around

"From the safety standpoint when using chains, it is typically recommended that you secure the load and tighten the binders, then drive about a mile and re-tighten the binders. I'd suspect that the state trooper has encountered many loads where the chains were not properly re-tightened."

In PA, it is required to stop and recheck any fastening method, chains, straps or rope, after a short distance.

Straps stretch & loosen after a while, too.

I would love to use straps, but I don't trust them and they're discouraged by DOT.

workinallthetime: Here's a couple pics of the "trailer legs" I made for my trailer.

material: 2"x2" square (outside)
1 3/4" x 1 3/4" (leg)
2 3/4" x 3 3/4" flat steel (feet)
3/8" x 2 1/2" pin
3/8" holes spaced 2" apart (in hind sight, 1 1/2" spacing probably would've been better!)

my brother swore up and down about straps, they use them in the airforce to tie stuff down i guess, anyway we went to pick up his daughters car about an hour away. he brought those i brought chains and boomers, got it on and got em tight. checked everything again about 5 miles down the road, all good. stoped about 30 minutes down the raod to get a soda, he went in i checked the car. lose as a goose, i chained it down with my stuff and put the straps in the back of my truck. that was my last experience with straps besides all the dirt bikes and street bikes we haul around. that would look kinda funny, boomers and chains on a dirt bike, lol

Print out that section of the code and put it in the glove box next to the lic and reg paperwork. It will come in handy if you ever have to deal with "Barney".
