Sell the truck.

Then you won't need that old trailer.

I will come over and haul it away for free.

You will be a hero in your wife's eyes. I won't charge anything extra for that.

Obviously a win-win situation.

I felt compelled to wade into the water on this post. You see, about 4 yrs ago I sent my daughter off to college with the old family mini van (1990). It had 140k on it. At that time, I drove an older truck and was quite content with it all, while my wife tooled around in a new jeep. Well, 4 yrs later, and the daughter being done with college, she is now the owner of a new nissan pickup. My son, who is now 19, has worked since the age of 15 in order to buy his own car. He bought a nice used VW jetta 2 yrs ago ....well this past week he sold it and came tooling in home with a nice 1 yr old Taco. So where is all this going? Well, my old truck has seen it's last days, and having spent my wad on a new tractor.... I am resigned to driving the old reliable family mini van...which now has 216k miles on it. As my family rides around in 4 wd pickup trucks or jeep, I tool around in my "Macho" mini van. I am starting to see that driving a pickup is really "a state of mind". Yes it defines who you are. I remember the first time my dad let me drive his pickup truck....and how that was different than the car. It just fit me better it seemed. I look with envy at my family and their rides.... well....(sigh)...maybe someday down the road I will again be driving a truck. My advice....keep the truck !!!

Good post. The other thing about a pickup besides this state of mind stuf, you can throw a bunch of stuff in the back. Mine always loaded with crap.

I've always had a truck of some sort for the past 20 years. I had almost the opposite problem, I fretted over whether I should buy my first car back 01. Well I bought the car. I couldn't be happier with the situation. I have a quiet vehicle for long trips, but I also have a truck to haul the larger things in life, like our tandem bicycle. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Does your insurance cost include collision? Can you reclassify your truck as recreational use? The truck's value is may be getting to the point where you can drop collision & comprehensive.

Ive had a pick-up since I got out of the army in '69 a '36 dodge PU. Since I have never been without, even when I lived in Atlanta and Philadelphia. Can't imagine being without. Now have '02 4WD 4 door Ford Ranger. My wife and I just live a life style that needs a pick-up in it. I guess if I was rich and could have everything delivered and done for me I wouldn't need one, but that's not the case. I also have a '99 subaru forester and a '04 Hunydai Elantra. If I had to get rid of 2 of the 3 I would keep the truck!!!!
I say keep it for awhile and see if you use it like a PU and then decide.

My insurance for liability only on a 93 Toyota extra cab 4wd is only $144/year. 

Holy cow! 144 a year! I pay 156 a month for my two vehicles (full coverage). I think the liability only part is about 500 a year per.

Regarding the original question.

Bottom line - life is easier with a pickup truck. Ideal situation is to have a truck & a commuter car. When my truck (2001 F150 supercrew) is paid for, I will be looking for an old benz diesel to get to work in.

Wharv, you don't have to convince me too hard, my next truck will be a F550 or similar with dump. My 350 isn't big enough anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

"a state of mind" is right on. I own two and a half trucks and wouldn't have it any other way. A 350 superduty, an '76 bronco, and half of a '68 f100. Dad owns the other half, His first new truck in '68. I'm in no hurry to take full ownership of it either.

hazmat: 156 a month for two doesn't sound bad when the best you can find as a single 24 year old male on an '04 F-150 that I just bought is going to cost me $110-12020 +/- a few bucks per month. That is with no wrecks in the past three years, (three years ago had fender bender on icy bridge and totaled another guys $900 truck and did 300 damage to mine) , no reported speeding tickets (all 5 since I turned 16 got court supervision) and I have passed every safety exam you can think of. I wish I could insure one nice vehicle for $78 a month without getting married
