I mostly enjoy buying tools and hoarding wood. It has been too hot to do much work in the shop. Now that it is finally cooling down I hope to get quite a bit of shop time. I have a monster bowl lathe that I built if anyone wants to see pictures.

4570man,
I'd like to see your lathe pictures. I have a "future"project to add a machine based power cutting head to a lathe to turn big projects instead of spinning large pieces of wood fast enough for tool cutting speed.

I had a similar idea, and I posted it on a wood turning forum and a was told it was a stupid idea and I should learn to properly balance a blank ( maybe in nicer terms, but same meaning. Here are the pictures. If anyone has any questions just ask. First picture is the bed without the legs attached. Second picture is the power plant. I thought the transmission was I great idea. Third picture is the salvaged and modified tailstock. Fourth picture is the spindle threaded 1-1/4-8. Fifth picture the locking bushing for the tool rest. Sixth picture is the headstock before I capped it. Seventh picture is the tool rest without the locking handle attached. The correct term for what I have incorrectly called a tool rest is a banjo, but I didn't know how many non wood turners would be familiar with the term. The whole lathe is built from salvaged junk and I have less than $200 in the whole thing. I apparently don't have a picture of the whole thing and I will take one as soon as possible.,

I don't know if it counts as woodworking, but it counts as "luthiering.":)

Any customers that we would recognize?

You are not alone.
I sit at my computer in the house I built and as I look around the room every piece of furniture (except sofas and chairs) were handcrafted in my 'shop'.
I work mostly with pine but also some hard woods.

Over time I handcrafted many fireplace bellows that I sold on EBay which further financed my shop.
I am lucky to have a most complete facility that allows me intricate projects.
Being a yard sale and flea market fanatic helps greatly to equip the shop on budget prices.
I also enjoy bartering and swapping.
Being very mechanically inclined (aviation mechanic) I have also been able to restore as well as modify tools to my liking.

Unfortunately my shop is split between mechanical and wood working so it generally is a chaotic mess. LOL.
Does not help when you have duplicates of just about every power and hand tool either.

I'm not a jazz fan, but I have heard of him. I am a bluegrass fan, so I don't see (or hear) many archtops.

I see a tractor in his bio. I use a tractor to move logs, branches, and wood; and I bet he does too.
