Just a couple things. 1. The moderators constantly are talking with one another about how to handle a situation. Many times nothing is done until Muhammad makes a call.
I'm going to chime in now, and say that the moderators have a lot of work trying to keep up with every post that's made. Muhammad is very busy and can't be everywhere and neither can the moderators.
2. This site has been called by many the best moderated site on the internet. I'm sure those writing here don't agree but for the most part this site is pretty well moderated.
If you would have asked me a year ago, I would have agreed with you. Moderation has slipped greatly in the past year, but I don't think it's so much because of a slip in the moderators. I'm going to chalk that up to so much more additional traffic, making it hard for the moderators to keep up. There's a whole lot more posts to read each day than this time a year ago!
3. We do have guidelines, policy, etc. in place to dictate how to handle things. BUTTT.... first and foremost Muhammad trys to keep this site for the people that are on it. If it looks like people want the site to go a different direction he will accomodate that and let us know to let up here and there or clamp down here and there.
Again, things have slipped in the past year. A year ago, you were not even permited to use "!@#$%&" in a post. That has been replaced by the entire word, except for changing one letter. A year ago, the subject line of this post would have never been permited! I was told the other day by one of the moderators that a desicion was made to "lighten up" on things a little. If that's a desicion by management, then I will go with that since it's his site and not ours. I'm not a prude, but I think if the language stays toned down, it will help quell the personal attacks and name calling that may rise from it. Not everyone takes things the same way.
4. There are going to be some inconsistencies. That is the nature of the beast with everything in life. Nothing is 100% the same all the time in life. There are variables.
Again, the moderators read a bajillion posts each year, and unless they are keeping track of their activity in a database or something, they aren't going to remember exactly what they did in every situation. There's going to be some differences from one time to the next because they are all human and are not perfect. Most of the moderators I know of are not out to "get" anyone in particular, I don't think.
5. Lastly, EVERYONE here is a moderator. If you see something out of line hit the notify moderator button. An email is immediately sent to every moderator, Muhammad, and Hakim. If it's an issue it will be dealt with.
Not one single one of us is perfect, and most of us have posted things that we shouldn't have (too political, etc.).
Muhammad has put in a set of rules that we all should try our hardest to abide by. Someone said in a post that this is America, and we have the freedoms to say what we want. That may well be true, but as long as we're using someone else's forum, and using their bandwidth, we need to try to abide by their rules. These rules are what has caused everyone to be civil and polite to everyone in the TBN community over the years, and by continuing to try to abide by their rules, it should keep politeness and civilness around here for a long time! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
One other thing-- This site is recognized as a "Family Friendly" website. While this is a good things for outsiders who may accidentally stumble across this website, I feel that it also helps to promote the civility that we have shown to one another also! Even though none of us are perfect, and many of us (including myself) have strayed into topics that violate Muhammad's terms of service, we should all be striving to stay within the TBN terms of service and within the Family Friendly guidelines.
I'm going to jump off of my soapbox now and step aside so no one can throw rotten tomatoes at me! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Thanks to Muhammad for a great website. Also, thanks to the moderators for the work they do. I'm going to let them respond to my comments now...
