Amazon delivery problems using USPS

/ Amazon delivery problems using USPS #42
My wife and I built a new house and moved in several months back. We filled out all of the correct documentation for forwarding mail with the actual address. Somewhere along the line, some person at the PO decided our address was incorrect and changed it without notifying us. Several weeks passed with little to no mail. None of our packages arrived, either. When we approached the forwarding PO about the situation, they claimed our address was supposed to have an N designation, as in N Ridge Rd, which put us in a different town and PO altogether. Of course, the woman involved was entirely wrong and no amount of me telling her was going to fix the issue.

Not only that, but through UPS Surepost, they were making deliveries to all sorts of different addresses in an effort to match up names, and with zero regard to the address. We were completely dumbfounded. To this day, they fail to make deliveries on packages and still have incorrect information on the forwarding labels. To fix the issue, it appears that USPS has just decided to end our forwarding service early.

The issue that sent me over the edge was my monthly train pass being ushered back to sender. That cost us $200 because I had to buy another one. Trust me, not one soul in that godforsaken **** hole cared. I cringe every month thinking that it's going to happen again.

There is so much unmanaged dysfunction and ineptitude in the USPS, that it may be entirely impossible to fix moving forward. This is one instance where it might make more sense to privatize a government service. It's a discussion that really should start to happen sooner rather than later.

At least coming to this forum I recognize that there's company for my misery. Perhaps we can start a support group to deal with our feelings :)

The USPS maintains a verified address database, subscribed to by UPS, FedEx, Amazon and others. Not just errors, but also lacking info. We get no kind of postal delivery, just our PO box. That means the only verified address is the PO itself. The PO knows this and attempts locally to address the problem have been ignored.

My Amazon story for the season. Ordered an Ingersoll Rand air dryer off of Amazon, sold by Northern Tool. Two weeks later no delivery so I checked the tracking number, supposedly UPS. Didn't work. Sent email question to Northern via Amazon. No answer. Called Northern up. After waiting through two phone queues, I got a person who said it was shipped not by Northern Tool but rather by Ingersoll Rand. And not by UPS, but by Roadrunner Freight. She gave me a number to call Roadrunner, to schedule delivery. I called them. Got transferred to four different people. Finally when the fourth person came on the line I said, wait, before you do anything, you are the fourth Roadrunner person I have talked to this morning, please do not transfer me away, I really need help here. So she said where are you, I said California, she said, why in the world did they transfer you to me, I am in South Carolina. Oh no! But then she took pity on me and instead of transferring me to another phone line, gave me the number of the real freight company that actually has the package. Roadrunner did not have the package. So I called the real freight company (Network Delivery Services) in Sacramento. The second person I spoke with there was able to schedule the delivery, for tomorrow. I am pretty sure it will work, she sounded like she knew what she was doing.

I forgot to say, the moral of the story is, the private freight companies are not necessarily any easier to deal with than USPS.

Yes, but private freight companies don't hold the authority to autonomously change your address, notify senders of false addresses, and return packages that are clearly destined for the correct address for absolutely no reason.

It took an amazing amount of persistence just to get our address in the "red book", which I still doubt has actually happened. This data is used by many websites for address verification. When it doesn't come up, that means the data has not been entered yet. We've had to call most every institution - banks, DMV, etc - to perform address changes. That takes a lot of time these days, because getting a human on the phone is virtually impossible without 10-15 minutes of automated phone prompts and hold time.

It's to the point now where I may have to drive up to the other address and ask them point blank how much of our mail they're getting. I even tried to have an internal investigation done to make sure the PO was in fact correcting the issue. It turned out to be a huge waste of time as there are no real checks and balances in the USPS.

Shipping freight can be frustrating, but at least someone is usually responsible, though finding that person can be difficult. With the USPS, every single employee is Teflon coated when it comes to responsibility. The impact of their incompetence has broad ranging affects.

Fair enough. That is awful and I hope some solution can be found.

Now lets talk Walmart. :shocked::confused3::laughing::laughing::laughing:

We ordered a couch, yes a couch, from Walmart and had it delivered to the store so we could pick it up. Surprisingly, FedEx transports the couch to WallyWorld so we can watch the couch travel across the US. Couch arrived in Wally Land but the Wallmartians have no record of the couch.:mad::mad::mad: How do you misplace a couch? Did the couch walk out the door by itself?

We reorder and get our money back from the couch that disappeared. The second couch should be delivered to day. It will be interesting to see if this couch disappears. We and friends have had problems with orders disappearing from this Walmart. It is hard to believe that they have these kind of problems.
...

Wednesday the reordered couch showed up at Walmart...

I will just not talk about having enough registers open and having to use the very badly programmed self check out. I despise those things. If a company wants me to be their employee, they should pay me. What is next, pull what we want off the trucks and stock it on the shelves before we can buy the item?

After wasting 15 minutes or so waiting in the wrong line, Customer Service is not where you pick up orders. This is a super Walmart with two entrances. If I had gone in the other entrance, I would have seen the pickup place but you would think they would have a sign pointing people to go to the right place...

So I finally get in the right line and there is a dummy in front of me trying to get her order. The TWO employees were telling the lady that they could not find the items she had ordered but which had been delivered. It took TWO employees to talk to the dummy. Now why am I calling the woman a dummy? I stood there for a good 15 minutes while this dumb a... looked at and tried to convince the employees to go find her unfound items. They had already told her multiple times that she had three choices, come back tomorrow to see if the items showed up, get her money back at the store, or get her money back on line. It took this dummy 15 minutes to figure out she wanted her money back in cash.:mad::mad: I don't know how long this cluster was going on before I walked up but I would not be surprised if this had been going on for 30 minutes or more.

When it was finally my turn, one of the employees knew where our couch was in back. Course he all but rolled his eyes about the effort it was going to take to walk to the back of the store, and oh my gosh, use a pallet fork to bring the box to the front of the store. I did notice he managed to find a younger guy in his 20's to move the couch. The first employee might have been 30.

There was sooo much wrong with this little visit.
  • It was obvious the TWO employees did not give a rats behind.
  • We all know the items were delivered but some employee had either not processed them correctly and/or just stole them. Furthermore the two employees could not be bothered to take a walk to look again.
  • They had already lost our first sofa which came in a pretty big box. How do you loose something that big?
  • They could not use the cash register correctly and locked it up so a manager had to come fix it. Which of course burned more time.

We have heard numerous stories about people ordering things for delivery to that store that then disappeared.

The common thread in all of these posts, be they about FedEx, USPS, UPS or Walmart, is the employees. They make or break an organization.

The other dummy waiting in line was me. That is the first and last time we will order and have it delivered to Walmart. We did this since we figured it would save us time and be easier to get the couch. Well, that was a mistake. Lesson learned.

Oh, what about the couch? It had to be put together but it was pretty easy to do. The instructions were slightly long but not a big deal. The other surprise is the couch is really comfortable! :confused3::shocked::eek::laughing::laughing::laughing: We thought that the couch had a pull out bed but it really is more like a futon. But it looks just alike a couch, is comfortable and does what we need.

Later,
Dan

Here we go again. Just got a note from usps, one of their "we couldn't deliver your package" notes. Reason? It says drive way blocked. wtf?!! There's nothing in my driveway!!! I think it took more time to fill out her form than to deliver it. Guess I get to ***** at the post master again.
