Wow. Not such great news on the Superwinches. What models did you have that were bad so quickly?

All models were the Terra 45 (4500lb). Upon installation, while winding the synthetic cable on I noticed shreds of black rubber being spit out from inside the winch. I assume some type of seal. This happened on every one upon installation. The winches weren't even being used in the real world!! The latest one even did it but not as bad. I was so sick and tired of sending units back I kept it and said screw it. Superwinch even sent me one directly from them. That is the current one I have on my RTV.

I have a Super Winch terra 35. So far so good. It's very fast and quiet for a winch!

I think the first thing to determine is your expected use??

If it's rare and light, buy whatever, you'll probably get along fine.

If it's often and hard, buy a brand name winch and buy one a little larger than your expected need.

The most overlooked issue with any winch is it's amp draw. A cheap winch always has a very high amp draw and short operational time. I've saw off brand winches kill a battery in one pull of 50ft or more.

I use the snot out of all my winches. I use Warn. Very dependable. Very efficient amp draw. Very high line speed. Very expensive. When I unspool my winch it's because I'm in a spot that nothing else is going to easily get me out of.

I have a 3K Warn on my Rhino. When it was 6 months old I burned it up pulling a stuck Jeep using a snatch block. Boxed it up and sent it to Warn. They sent me a new one, no questions asked.

I have a 9.5K Warn on my Jeep Buggy. Has a line speed of 67 fpm. Is efficient enough to run on one battery. It's been under water several times. Have anchored my Buggy to a tree and used it to retrieve others many, many times.

If your use is hard, go quality.

Thanks for the support of our VIPER winches here, gang. We sell about 7000 units a year, so they've been tried and tested. We can offer good prices without sacrificing quality because we don't use distributors and their 30% mark-up. PM me if you have any questions. Thanks!

And here you are again!!!! If you wanna drum up business why don't you do a "give away" of a winch with the requirement being a complete write-up of it's performance??

I'm going to Colorado in August for two weeks of high country wheeling. I could be persuaded to unbolt my 9K Warn from my Jeep and give an honest assessment of what you send me. I also run a 3K Warn on my Rhino that could be removed if you have something in that category you are willing to test??

On this website you gain respect by offering your product and standing behind it, win or lose. :)

Thanks for checking in.....and great stuff. Appreciate it.

First....thankfully, we are not in a position to have to "drum up business" -- and trust me, I'm very grateful for that! :) Our mission is to create high quality powersports' accessories at prices people can afford and then to simply "be nice" in an Old School way to everyone who comes across our path. Our sales have tripled over the past few years as we track towards $6 million in sales this year, and has led to strong partnerships with retailers like Cabelas, Acme Tool, Sportsman Guide and nearly 400 powersports' dealerships around the country and internationally. I'm humbled by that and recognize we have a very talented staff and good industry partners.

So what's the president of largeish powersports' business doing here if not "drumming up business?" Well part of our core philosophy is that we will not work with the fancy distributors out there like Parts Unlimited, Tucker Rocky, etc. The 30% mark-up is a marketing cost and can cause companies like ours to cheapen their products in order meet the necessary margins, etc. We'd rather be a grass roots, real live company that, no matter how big we get, interacts with our individual customers on boards like this. We've been doing this for nearly ten years on other powersports' boards. We've had a ton of positive feedback and the occasional scathing critique -- all of which is good for our business as it makes us better. So I will not sit in some fancy corner office away from the ground level of these boards and what people are saying. Shoot, I share a desk in a cubicle with my co-owner while our customer service reps have bigger space.

Now I suppose you could say we are "drumming up business" on this specific board which is why I posted in several threads today after searching this board for 'Viper Winch.' We are new sponsors here and I wanted to see what people were saying while also respectfully showing we are listening and are available. There are a lot of good products to choose from and I won't bash any of our competitors. Fun to see what everyone is saying and this helps us evaluate if it makes sense to participate here or not. The monthly sponsor fees are higher than most boards, so we have to see what we get.

In terms of testing something, we've done this a number of times to mixed results in terms of people following up with us after they get their free product. Our stuff has been evaluated and tested more times than I can count, but I'm always willing! So shoot me a PM and see if we can work something out. The larger winch category for Jeeps is a focus of ours in the next year, so I'd love to work with you on this. We have our new Jeep bumper (made in the USA) coming out in a few months to compliment our 10"-50" SIRIUS and SIRIUS PRO lights and our 8000lb-16500lb VIPERS. Here's a picture of the prototype:

I'd LOVE to have you test this out too when we get them rolling.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.
