I think most people only have a cell phone anymore. The "home phone" has disappeared because of all the spam/scam calls. If they do decide to make a call (maybe the house is on fire), they will need to do it on a cell phone. But you are right - some people, with all the texting, may not know how to actually call someone on their cell.
We haven't had a landline in at least 10 years now. I only know one person that still does and she's almost 90 - you know what they say about old dogs and new tricks. The SO and I were actually talking about this other day, wondering when they were going to finally kill off the ancient POTS stuff, kinda like how they killed off NTSC. At some point there will be so few users that it won't be economically viable to maintain any longer. If you tried calling any of my kids they wouldn't answer, and you couldn't leave a message either because the voice mail box is full. I mentioned this to one of them and they didn't even know they had a voice mail box, nor how to check it.

I just cancelled my Amazon Prime yesterday. It was up for renewal this week.
I'll see how it goes for the next few months. I hope I can do without it.

However, when was the last time you saw a cell phone advertising how much better phone calls completed or sounded?
What?? Can you hear me now??
Wife has an I-phone, if she doesn't speak up right into it, it's so garbled you almost can't make out what she's saying.

Our home phone is part of a cable bundle, does that count? Technically, it's VOIP, but it still acts like a landline. It's my preference.
Actually, only the "last mile" of landline may or may not be copper. Rest of the circuit is on fiber now.

I don't get the appeal of texting, seems like a real PITA trying to type something out on a dinky cellphone screen. Maybe I'm just old.

When I gave up my landline, the cell company wouldn't give me a phone unless I listed a landline #. (I gave them the number of my company cell)
About 8 years ago cell service had gotten so crappy here that I've gone back to a landline. Funny thing, I haven't gotten a bogus call on either phone (Mine or company cell) since the start of the year, although I am getting frequent quasi erotic texts.

About 15 years ago I was issued a new company truck with free 3 month OnStar. I was coming out of the woods on Friday night, miles from any type of cell coverage when I received an incoming call from the Onstar. It was some type of spam call... the only time that I ever used that phone.
You did not say "evil". I guess he must have felt that you viewed his business accounting method as sinful.
I'm sorry if I hurt his feelings.

What is your point? If you don't get paid vacation, you work 52 weeks. You also look for a different job. Others get 4-6 weeks paid vacations. Lots of jobs don't pay by the hour either. People frequently confuse self employment with lack of benefits. In a free society, workers with unsatisfactory benefits have choices. Paid vacation is not a legal requirement, but most companies provide it. Why? The company either recognizes that people burn out or they just want to be competitive as an employer. Either way, most people who work full-time as an employee get paid time off.
Wow! Calm down charlie brown!

Maybe you need some unpaid vacay.

I wasn't arguing with you because your post was nothing to argue about. It didn't make much sense but I merely stated a fact.

I was blessed to be getting 6 weeks paid vacay when I retired. Some don't even get 2. Some are working more than one job maybe by choice maybe not.

Don't let stress get to you so much.

If they are 1099, they are self-employed. Most self employed people never really have time off. You are also not really their employer; it is the same thing as hiring someone to mow your back 40. When they are not working on your land it does not mean they are on vacation.
He didn't say he gives them time off. He said he presumes they will be off for 3 weeks when making his calculations. Geez, get a grip on that hostility.

What is your problem? I'm not upset or hostile. I am just pointing out flaws in the math. You are throwing around exclamations and seem worked up. Just because someone points out where you are wrong does not make them hostile. I am a teacher, part of my job is helping people correct their mistakes.

The vast majority of employees who work full time get paid time off. 1099 individuals are not employees, they are SE. That comes with an entirely different set of pros and cons. Most of us live in free societies where employment is a mutual decision. If those individuals did not prefer to be SE, they could choose another line of work or offer themselves to others looking to hire employees. The market for jobs right now is very much in the court of those looking for work.

Ahhhh, now I see, YOU are the Teacher. In your mind it's YOUR job to set every one else straight and we better listen. LoL! Go back and hit the books before you come back with more dumb arguments. I bet you teach drivers education.

You do realize that cellphone calls are actually transmitted over conventional telephone lines ?

One of the advantages of texting is sending a message that the recipient can read and respond to when they have time, unlike a phone call.
