Best selling vehicle in 1975. Ford Cutless - about 20 mpg.
Best selling vehicle in 2013 (and for most of the last 15 years) Ford F Series - about 15 mpg.

How's that oil dependence thingy working out for 'ya?

(Best selling 'pickup', and second best selling vehicle overall, in Australia is the Toyota Hilux. About 21 mpg. Unfortunately is 100% imported.)

Ford Cutlas? what in he.. are you talking about? Ford never had a model named the Cutlas.. Oldsmobile made the cutlass and is was a medium sized car. To compare that to any pickup truck is just stupid.. what are you ranting about oil dependancy? We are rapidly increasing oil production in the US, due to new drilling methods.

I loved my F150, but I could figure gas mileage with a yard stick. For many of us a truck is a necessity and not a fashion statement so we have to live with reduced fuel efficiency.

I thought the ecoboost engine in the new F150s are pretty good on gas. It's still a truck, but compared to previous iterations, they are making some good advancements.

My dad has an F150 with the ecoboost. According to him it gets no better mileage than his 2007 Tundra 5.7L did, and is not nearly as good at pulling his camper.

(Sorry, I meant Oldsmobile). I wasn't 'comparing' it to the F Series. I was just making the point that your biggest selling vehicle today is much bigger and thirstier than your biggest selling vehicle of 40 years ago. Maybe you have a whole lot more farmers than you did 40 years ago. And your drilling methods may be improving but at the moment you are still dependent on about 30 billion dollars of imported oil per month.

The reason the F150 is a good seller is because that is what people want.. And the fact that the majority of it is made in the USA is a good thing. And the fact you don't have to be a farmer or a construction worker to own a Truck is a good thing too. Every truck that is made is providing jobs for the people that assemble the truck and the suppliers of all the components that go in it. And that is a good thing. I own stock in the Ford motor company. And that is a good thing.

I noticed he was from Australia, and just figured he wanted a argument. Why else would he care what the top seller in USA was or our dependence on foreign oil.

I have a 2001 f250 with a 7.3 powerstroke diesel gets 16 mpg combined or 22 for all freeway. And it weighs over 7000 lbs. If only the EPA would let diesels alone.
