I feel shooting is just like any other exercise. You keep up with it and keep your skill sup. If I went 'years' without shooting.. i wouldn't count on making that 1-shot kill when out on the trail of some animal that moves faster and quieter, hears, see's and scent's better than i do.. while I track him thru his home teritory.

Speaking of metal prices.. i see where nickel and pennies are being sold overseas to scrap dealers for more than face value.. GO FIGURE!!

Soundguy

10-4 on that spike in metal price!

Our shares in Southern Copper Corp. have risen 300% in the last two years alone and their dividend payout of 9.5% is absolutely unreal too, beating even Bank America, Exxon, Chevron, Conoco, etc. Fantastic return on our equity! :D

Just for info, didn't read any of the previous posts,,,,,,one shot, one kill,,,never could figure out why a grown man wanted to go out and shoot at targets every weekend,[some, every day],once your knives sharp,,no need to hone anymore of it away,,,thingy

Ah, Grasshoopper, old proveb say "Practice make perfect" :D

I am a fair shot, but I could not go out today and shoot 100 metre silhouettes with pistol like I used to. I'm sure I could hit a couple, but not like a few years ago when I did it regularily.

Even with a scoped rifle, nothing beats practice when you get that buck fever and adrenaline going.

Besides, it's fun to go out and shoot. I like to shoot everything, but my favorite is to go out on a brisk, crisp, clear morning with the black powder rifles. A Hawken, .50 cal, with 110gr of FF real black powder and a 375gr Maxi-ball. You fire that off, see the smoke bellow out in front of you, and hang on that frosty morning air...The smell and the sound are cool ;) Usually I use Pyrodex because of local availablity of black powder. The best for this situation is the real thing though.

i hadnt been to the range in years and had my .22 out at my uncles with my plinkin target...

with in 1 clip i was back to running the target with open sites @20 yards (i forgot how small that 2.5" circle is with iron sites.) and i forgot how much fun it was to plink....

(but now that i have my property ill be doing that more often...)

ive been wanting to add a .18HMR to my growing collection soon also....

A buddy has a Rem-700 in the .17 Remington. He moved before I had a chance to shoot it. I wonder how it compares to the .17HMR...

I know he reloaded for it, and found handling the small .17 bullet to be a pain to handle. That is noted in some reloading data too.

An interesting caliber I got to shoot a few years back was a .218 Bee. That was a fun cartridge! It was a little lever action rifle a friend had.

The .17 Remington is a 4100 fps centerfire. Makes lots of noise--much more powerful than .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire.

.218 Bee is a great cartridge. If memory serves me it is basically a necked-down .25-20. Really fun...much more powerful than a .22 but not a cannon, either.

Yeah, practice makes perfect and all that,,just never been the target shooting kind o guy,,,,killed 4 foxes this year with my 22 mag, lined it up last year,,,may have missed one I think,,killed one deer with my 7mm mag,,[just shot it once],,killed two more bucks with two shots with my cross bow,,,,,not bragging here, just facts,,,,I know its fun to shoot every now and than,,its just that no more than I shoot,,price of brass is not a problem...to each his own,,its a sport like any other to some,,to me,the way I was raised, you shoot you had better bring home some meat[we was poor],,and I will say,,that if I ain't shot my 357 mag for a while,,have to think about how fine a front sight I need,,but I got 5 more shots to figure it out,,[well actually, just 4,cause the cowboys always left the hammer cylinder empty],,I ain't the best shot,,but I get the job done when I need to,,but,,to each his own,,just thought I'd interject some controversy,,,,,,[thats always good],right???,,,thingy

Seems my "lil ol thread" started out asking for some sources possibly unknown to me for online ammo or maybe better deals....
I think one guy, maybe two offered options.
Somehow the thread morphed into who shoots what caliber and how good a shot people are and how they can knock a nickel off a nightstand at 2000 yards, even reloading advice, and how many times one ought shoot in their life.
Jeesh...... nothings sacred anymore.

There is a thread down yonder about "absolutely nothing" LOL
