Nope, didn't miss the point. I am very familiar with the Colibri ammo. Some other very quiet 22 ammo is the Aquilla Sniper Sub Sonic 60 grain bullets and Flobert-Rundkugeln (Dynamit Nobel) CB and BB caps.

Holy smokes batman! That was a steal if you got 200 pcs of Norma .378 Weatherby Mag brass for only $200. Going price currently for them is around $210 to $215 for 100 pcs.

Loaded factory Weatherby ammo is going for around $100 for 20 rounds of .378 Weatherby Mag loaded with 270 Gr. Barnes X bullets.
Holy smokes is right,
I had no idea I got such a good deal. Plus, I used to pay around $50 for a box back in the early 90's and used that brass for re-loads. I got the Norma brass on an eBay auction several years ago but haven't done diddly squat about re-loading yet.:) I could never shoot more than a box at the range unless I wanted a blown out shoulder. I became extremely proficient at making every shot count. The worst was when I first tried 10 different loads and bullets before I finally decided. That day on the range was brutal.

Gordon,
I'm interested in that Colibri .22 ammo. Do you have a source where it's available?
Thanks,

The article mentions Centurian Ordnance, Inc 210-695-4602 in Texas

Aguila Ammunition / Centurion Ordnance, Inc.

February Guns magazine GUNS Magazine Online Edition

My customer bought it at a local gun shop in Tennessee some time ago before the article came out. There are four distinct types of Colibri ammo described in the article.

Dieselpower mentions Aquilla with a Q spelling and two L's. This article mentions Aguila with a G and one L. The pictures in the story show the spelling with a G on all four boxes.

The pix of a 22 round with a 60 grain bullet is wierd. The exposed portion of the bullet is longer than the brass. That would be the same as a 30-30 with 2.5" of exposed bullet!!!

Just for info, didn't read any of the previous posts,,,,,,one shot, one kill,,,never could figure out why a grown man wanted to go out and shoot at targets every weekend,[some, every day],once your knives sharp,,no need to hone anymore of it away,,,thingy

Also wondering what the big deal is with quiet .22 ammo. I've been using CCI CB shorts, that seem to be available practically everywhere, for MANY years with head-shot accuacy at 100+' ... with open sights or a $10 scope. Quiet as an air gun with a 24" barrel ... perfect for using your house as a "blind", even with a room full of company. (... not having a wife helps with such operations in some cases :)

When a knife is sharp and if it remains unused, being an inanimate object, it has really no choice but to stay sharp...
does this help?

I got a new Cabela's shooting and reloading catalog in the mail today and it's interesting to note the little blurb about ammo prices they stuck throughout the catalog. I quote:

"The past several months the world metal commodities markest have seen the most volatile activity and price increases on record. The costs of copper, lead, steel, zinc, nickel and tin used extensively in the manufacturing of bullets, brass casings, loaded ammunition and other metal products has increased in some cases 100% in the past siz months. These costs have increased so dramatically that we are forced to adjust some retail prices to offset the increased cost we are incurring. We continue to make every effort to print the most current price in our catalogs. However, the fluctuation of cost we are experiencing may cause the need to make price changes that will supersede the printed prices. These prices are subject to change without notice. We apologize for this situation and we truly value your patronage. Please check current prices at Cabela's Official Website - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear at competitive prices. or call 1-800-237-4444."

thingy - That would be me. That is, one of those nuts that goes out and shoots almost every day. Some people are into football, some tennis, some golf. I myself like the chalange of a 5 shot ragged hole at 100 yards+, being able to knock over a 4 inch target at 300 yards in a 30 MPH+ cross wind and God, I just love that smell. :)

gordon21 - Yep, the bullet is longer than the case. If I get a chance I'll pull some of those 60 grainers out of the bullet trap tomorrow and show you how long they really are. It's amazing how much lead they can stuff in a 22 Long case isn't it.

I feel shooting is just like any other exercise. You keep up with it and keep your skill sup. If I went 'years' without shooting.. i wouldn't count on making that 1-shot kill when out on the trail of some animal that moves faster and quieter, hears, see's and scent's better than i do.. while I track him thru his home teritory.

Speaking of metal prices.. i see where nickel and pennies are being sold overseas to scrap dealers for more than face value.. GO FIGURE!!
