Kubota BX2660
I have a bx2660 that is not used much in the summer but gets a decent workout in the winter running a snowblower. I am looking at going to a synthetic and had my car mechanic recommend amsoil 5w 30. Will this work or should I stay with a 15w 40 as recommended?

There's nothing like a good old fashioned oil thread. LOL

There are other options. 5W-40 is readily available in full synthetic Rotella or Dello, even at Wally World.

I think Amsoil is a good oil but it's not locally available where I live....or at least I've never seen it.

This is what I use. It's available at WalMart and the price wasn't too steep if I remember correctly.

Yes, use it as long as its this AMSOIL 5W-30. I even use this in my JD tractor with gas engine....Friend been running it for 1/2 million miles in his Kenworth.

Keep in mind the 5W is just the cold weather rating for the oil and the lower the number the faster it flows when cold. A 15W-40 in cold weather is not the best for a small engine. An oils cold-temperature performance refers to its ability to flow when the engine is cold, or below typical operating temperature (212 F / 100 C), and not simply to what feels cold to humans - warm summer days are also cold to an engine. Startup lubrication is directly affected by a lubricants cold-flow ability, and the impact is felt at higher temperatures than most consumers would think.

This is a CI-4 Diesel engine oil

We just recommended this oil, well actually the 10w30 version to a guy in Canada using mutable engines and wanting to use one oil...

The specs look pretty good,, and I'm not an amsoil person, never owned any. (Availability)

As we said to the other poster, unless you notice any unexpected oil consumption, and it's easy for you to get this oil, then it all adds up pretty good especially the winter time use you mentioned..

The only consideration is the spec for the machine. Most equipment built from 2007 on require a CJ4 spec'd oil. The HDD and ACD are not designed for that spec so they should not be used in 2007+ equipment. The CJ-4 spec is designed to meet modern diesel engine emissions needs.

Here are the AMSOIL diesel oils, the 3 on the right are CI-4 (up to 2006) and the rest meet CJ-4 (2007 to today).

Z71. That is the funny thing it is post 2007 but the book says don't use cj 4. Use rating of ci4? I wonder if the book just hasn't been updated. But yes the 3000 you put a pic of is what I was looking at.

Kubota is slow with updating some of the requirements in the owners manual it seems. My B2320 and KX-057 manuals say the same, "no CJ-4". But I have used CJ-4 classed oil in both Kubota's since new. If you go to Kubota's website and dig around you can see the requirements have been updated, CJ-4 diesel engine oil is now approved for our machines. Go figure. :confused3:

Mobil 1 TDT is my first choice also, for the same reasons. $23.xx per gallon jug is what I just paid at WallyWorld.

Off-road diesel engines were not required to add DPF's so many still approve of using CI-4 oils because they do not have a DPF (diesel particulate filter).

Note - CJ-4 oils are backward compatible.
