So, I'm guessing that unless Amsoil signed a 50 year contract with CTC, they can't be that upset with the arrangement.
I really can't see the average CanTire customer doing planned maintenance buying Amsoil off the shelf, the prices are just way too high. For the people with money to burn, well, most of those never work on their own cars.
For the average DIY'er, I can't see CTC taking a big bite out of dealer sales, the price spread is too big. What it does do here is provide an on-the-road top up option. You're towing on vacation and find that you need 3/4 of a liter/quart of ATF - pay the high CTC price, and you are back on your way without diluting your ATF of choice.
I don't buy Amsoil at CTC, but am glad it is stocked there for potential emergencies.
I'd have to check to be sure, but I don't think Royal Distributing was around in the early 80's. CTC is a much older chain (1920's or so).
