I am not being rude etc and I was trying to help since you did not want to "post 200 pages of the case I went through here". So I offered to post this for free. hmmmm, I wonder..... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Maybe I missed something by what information did you post? I missed that part.

Ok, so I guess the 200+ pages of warrenty issues is dead. Thanks for the help anyways.

You can be sure I know what to do if I had engine problems and take care of that before I took the truck in for repair. I knew by 1998 that Amsoil even with extended drain isn't going to cause an engine failure.

That is the key!! One thing though unfortunately it doesn't work both ways. The mfg. can refuse warranty work and they don't have to prove anything. If you take them to court it's on your shoulders to prove that you did do the recommended services. And you are really at a loss if there are mods on the truck. Like you said if you make the truck stock before you go in likely there won't be an issue. But I sure wouldn't want to get in a lawyer match with a major corporation unless I had all my ducks in a row.

I was just in a meeting where a Regional GM sevice manager was there and the question came up about changes to the ECM for the Duramax engines being modified with aftermarket changes. They stated there for Fuel Injectors GM is responsible for this for 8yrs or 80,000 miles. As they continued the only way they can not cover an item under is if they prove that either the aftermarket item, maintenace, or abuse caused the failure. (of course reading between the lines you could see room for grey area. How could you prove a bearing failed due to oil or a defective bearing?)

When I worked in a GM garage back in the late 80's there was a car brought in with a bad engine, it was easy for the mechanic to tell the cause of failure was due to lack of maintenance but it was covered anyway. From what I understand, GM service depts. have quit a bit of leway to cover major components even out of warranty (up to a certain mileage).

(I am not an employee of GM or a GM dealer.)

NH is pretty much the choice of tractor in my local area. I've seen parts and even one engine replaced 8 months out of warranty here. From what I've gathered talking to the farmers that owned these tractors, the dealer has some power in these decisions. When the dealer can step in and take care of the problem, they know they'll get that trade in or straight out new buy next time.

I just don't see or hear of the type warranty coverage in my local area that cowboydoc talks of. Not saying it isn't happening but it's not like that in my area. The dealer be it car's, trucks or farm tractors wouldn't be in business long when that type of news got out.

And cowboydoc I wouldn't make it stock. I'd take it in with Amsoil in it. Filters and all. There's no doubt in my mind that Amsoil is superior to any oil that the dealer would use. As gsxr1100 has stated many times and I've done the same. Send the techs at Amsoil and e-mail or call them on applications and they'll tell you what to use for every application. I've done that since day one. If they don't have a product that fits the application they'll say so right up front. No if, but or maybe. They either have it or they don't.

I have no fear of using Amsoil in my new Farmtrac. My dealer knows it's being used and I know he'll stand behind the tractor. He has stated many times that he wished every customer would maintain their tractors like I do. I work with him and he works with me. He's always done right by me and I'll continue to buy from him. Using Amsoil isn't a factor in that deal.

I'm glad to see a couple of posts on the plus side for the dealers / manufacturers. Otherwise this thread was turning into a warning about how dealers / manufacturers can weasle out of warranty coverage.

Good Post! Yes, the dealer and service mgr has a lot to do with it. Another case (just like everything else) where "there's good and bad in all of them" Some dealers will not go to bat, and some will.

Now the Magnuson Moss act was mentioned, and the fact that the dealer/mfg must PROVE the cause of failure, but truth is, they stil hold the cards. The average Joe does not have the time (let alone money) to get into a big battle over warranty denial, and if the heels are dug in, that is that...

What we don't understand we fear, and what we fear we put down.

Its a proven fact, most of the things we worry about, NEVER HAPPEN.

Amsoil user since 1977..........

IOW, if someone doesn't agree that Amsoil is the greatest thing since sliced bread, then they're ignorant and afraid. Sigh.

No one is putting down anything, merely stating another opinion.

Perhaps we need to add Amsoil to the list of forbidden topics since almost every thread ends up this way.
