It could be an ok add. Ive posted stuff on cl before with no contact info other than the cl reply email and then went from there. avoids the stupid calls from none serious people. :thumbsup:

Except that this seller immediately offers the scam preferred selling through some crummy "service". THAT is the sign of a scam. Can't come see it, but quickly moves to talk the "selling service"? Bah!

Is there any way to check out OAT services and see if they are a legit company. What would be a safe payment company to go threw if someone was interested in buying off of cl.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I saw the post on CL and it looked like a scam but the price was a little more than the ones that are typically used for scams.

I find it really hard to believe someone would fall for this kind of cr*p. But then in the words of P.T. Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute". Thumbsdown on this one. :thumbdown:

It is now listed on the Tampa Bay - Hillsborough Co., FL Craigslist site for $6,500.

I remember seeing those same pictures several months ago in a legitimate ad. Price was about double that if I recall correctly.

I saw a scam add like this before and responded not knowing it was a scam. Once I realized it was a scam I kept the guy going for weeks. He eventually said he was on a cruise ship. I asked him the name and he told me. I then Emailed him back telling him my brother was on the same cruise ship and and had the cash money on him to pay him. I never heard from the guy again but got a laugh knowing I scamed him. He wasted my time, so I wasted his.

I've emailed a few of these in the past myself just to screw with them. Told one I was local and wanted to stop by that day. Turns out she just got divorced and moved to Canada and would ship the tractor to me. Another guy was working on an oil rig in the gulf. Never got far enough to understand how the scam is supposed to work. I seem to remember they said I pay after I receive the tractor. Not sure what the plan there would be.

SCAM

Sawdustfarmer beat me to it...I saw the same ad in Tampa Florida that he did.

Hallmarks of a scam are:

price too low
tempting extra features
beautiful photos
shiny equipment
low hours
no phone number
free email address or no email address at all in initial Craig's Listing
A reply to any email explains a hard luck story and why the "owner" can't meet fact to face = WARNING!!!


To do your own research, choose some key words from the ad and use Search Tempest with a 2000 mile search radius. Invariably, I find EXACTLY the same ad, photos, wording, etc. in numerous other cities in the USA.

I commonly peruse CraigsList in search of a gator or Polaris ranger. Many of the ads are scams. If you inquire about the tractor and receive an email that starts out with "this is how it works" or they start out with a boo hoo hoo life tragedy that, will confirm it's a scam. The scammers also like to use an email address that is a womans name, that's not to say all female email addy's are scammers.

I know of a guy that got taken on 6 k this year on a scam. I for 1 could never fall for this, he sent his money western union :confused2:! But sometimes people sell stuff cheap so you never know but never pay cash and never pay without seeing unless a reputable source.
