Anatomy of a law suit...

I think that I have to change my tag line to "There is no accounting for other peoples stupidity". How many people will agree with that one???? Or "God must love stupid people, because that is why he made so many of them!"

Junkman, I used to work for a major ag line company testing new products in the field. I ran into TWO card carrying stupid ones. My company's name was on the side of my service truck, so people were always stopping me to talk about our equipment.

Stupid #1: A guy showed me the back of his hands. Both hands, the knuckles were scarred up and black and blue. His story: he wanted me to go back and tell the engineers instead of machining a flat spot on the end of one drive shaft as they currently do, he wanted it machined HEX so he could put a socket on it to back it off. As we were walking to my test machine so he could show me, it dawned on me what he was talking about! His auger in his swather plugged up. Rather than shut it off as stated in the manual and backing it off using the flat spot. He left the machine running, and with the slip clutch running, applied his 15" cresent on the flat spot to "help it along". Well, it did! With his help, the auger plug went through the machine, and the cresent pinned both his hands against the frame. That slip clutch ran a long time before it gave out and allowed him to remove his battered hands from the machine. As soon as I figured it out, I stopped him and told him there was no way I would recommend that change. It would NOT be safe and furthermore, what he did was grossly unsafe. He was scratching his head when I walked away!

Stupid #2: I was installing a sickle bar in a test machine at a farmer's place. He was helping me insert it. I'd already tossed my hammer to the place he was in front of the machine, so he could use the handle to help hold down the sickle bar if it hung up (which is common). He didn't pick up the hammer, so I walked around to show him what I'd like him to do. He said he didn't like messing up hammer handles! I told him they were cheap. Then he showed me his hands. He'd lost TWO fingers in two years of inserting sickles HIS WAY. He'd push down on the bar, and say hit it. When his hand slipped, he'd lose part of it!!!! GROSS. I told him no way would I proceed unless he used my hammer as a guide. GEEEZE.....

Hope this prevents more stupid acts.......
