Some tidbits...

My dealer just got back from the briefing - and also said there will be 4 models - hp will range from 43 at the low end to 58 at the high end. (gross, not PTO) Same base engine in all four. Roughly same size chassis and same tire sizes. They expect selling prices to be "about the same, at least for the first year" and are expected to start shipping in mid-June. (He didn't sound overly convinced on that last point).

My spies tell me the large frame tractors will ship in June with the med frame to follow in Jan/Feb. The small frame is scheduled for next spring.
The large frame will have a 4 cylinder turbo charged Deere motor built in Mexico. Torque reserve will be up 30% over existing models. Nothing was announced for the mid frame but the rumor is a 3 cylinder turbo.
All frame sizes will have an aero hood with curved loader arms, load capacities will be up slightly and is easier to remove. Tire size is the same.
Operator platform will have some changes to make it more roomy and improve the operator view.

Are you sure the engine is made in the USA? I think you'll find that the new engines for the 4020 series are coming from Torreon Mexico not Dubuqe Iowa........

I've been given bad information before but that was from the regional manager at deere. He said they were going to use the same motor that they put in the skidsteers.

Same engine, COULD still come from another plant....

If the s-s are using the same engine as in the new tractors then they all are coming from Mexico. A couple of years ago Deere moved everything except the big 6 bangers down to Torreon. So in today's economy I'd doubt very much that even Deere is building the same motor in two places on the same continent.

Well - just checked on the Deere site to write down some part #'s for the 460 loader and various options in prep for trying to get my 4710.

The 460 is no longer on the Deere site under the "build" function - but the 400X is. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

No specs I could find, but there are several options listed I don't remember seeing under the 460 banner.

Toothbars for the 61" and 73" buckets ($289/$337)
"Skid Steer Carrier" (avail. 7/1/04 at $380)

There is also a 72" grapple bucket ($2,100) - in addition to the 4-in-1. I couldn't remember if that existed before or not.

It appears that there is only one HD 73" bucket now, one that includes the replaceable cutting edge. I think there used to be one with and one without, in addition to the regular bucket.

Sounds like the basic attachment design is still Deere's not standard skid-steer, hence the accessory.

Be nice to know what the specs are compared to the 460 when on a "10" series - since someone said the 400X is supposed to be backward compatible. Right now I might have the option to choose either for a 4710.

BTW the new loader's name (400x) matches the new model #'s that are rumured. The 430/420 replacement would be 300x. and a 200x for the small chassis...
