Yeah this door faces west.

Our east facing Andersen 400 series French doors had some of the vinyl cladding peel and pucker. I cleaned and reglued with Gorilla glue...used a board just as long as the loose clad and clamped it tight until the glue dried. That was 3 years ago and still holding tight.

We've had no problem with the other Andersen doors, which open onto covered porches, or any of the windows.

Good luck.

My door trim was peeling off but not nearly as bad as yours. Just this week I got it back close to where it is supposed to be and put some elastic sealant on it. It is pretty sticky stuff and looks good for now. We'll see how it stands up in the weather on the west side of the house.

This is the stuff I bought at Ace Hardware. I used white, I didn't see a page for white.

MGH PA, I do believe that after 20+ years, any window or door would be having some issues. I have found Andersen to be a trusted product and would not have a second thought about using them on your new house.

3 season room here. Used Andersen "French Wood" sliding door. Entire bottom covering outside on the fixed panel started peeling off within a few years. I used screws and glue to hold it on. Looks like crap, but it works. I did file a claim and got a new panel, but it's still in the carton in my shop, I haven't bothered to pull the door apart, try to stain the replacement interior to match and use it.

Happened to mine on back of house that gets direct weather. Anderson shipped me new doors that i installed. I still have the old doors, that i would like to fix.

BEF, how long had you had the door? Still under warranty?

I had a couple of window cranks break when a wind storm caught the open windows and jerked them - Andersen was real good about sending replacement cranks.

They replaced the doors once under warrantee. The replacement doors have not peeled off.

I agree. All Anderson 400 series in my house and Moen faucet products. They have both had amazing after sales support. My Anderson East facing sliding door takes a lot of abuse with the kids, but is holding up well. The screen slider though is another story, but ~15 years on an aluminum screen sliding door is probably pretty good.

I used several of the higher end windows for remodels and new construction...

Of those I like Marvin... never a problem and some going back 20+ years...

Anderson had issues that were covered and those homes are all have new owners now.

Anderson does a lot of advertising...

On the other hand... the windows on my 1922 Craftsman are wood double hung... I did have to replace the sash cords... Mom's home is mid 1950's aluminum casement... those too needed replacement cranks once...

My guess is there is not a perfect window out there but the Marvins have been tops so far.
