I want a toothbar for my new bx-25 - I measured the inside width of the bucket down low and it's @ 46.5" side. I believe this Iowa brand will fit mine. Does anyone know for sure before I order one ?

Just go directly to Iowa Farm Supply's web site and you can ask questions directly there. If the pre-made ones won't fit your bucket, they do make custom tooth bars and have a form to give the dimensions to them but I'd bet they have one in stock to fit your bucket.

Here's a link to their online order site:

I bought my Tooth bar from Iowa Farm Equipment and it is a well made piece.
I would give them a call @ 563-946-2121 and ask. I suspect if both are accurate dimensions that you would need the 46" wide as picker77 posted.

With the bucket sitting level there's no problem, it's when you have the bottom surface close to vertical in the dump position that you need to be careful. The bucket acts as a lever around the pivot pins, trying to compress the curl cylinders because of the force exerted on the bucket lower lip by driving in reverse with the lip dragging. I've heard of bent cylinders or blown hoses (see above) from doing this.

I try not to back-drag with the bucket angle more than 45 degrees from flat, if it DOES hook something hard it will ride up over and not over-stress the cylinders.

If I need to have the bucket vertical, I'm pretty careful (slow and paying attention).

Sean

Thanks,
I will be more carefull going forward.

Just got back from the pile. Putting it in Low and stepping on the differential lock made it a completely different machine. No problem getting a full scoop now. Sinks right in.

I associate low gear with towing. Didn't occur to me to use it with the bucket.

I have done this before. I used a box scraper with the chisels in the lowest position to go over the dirt mount to loosen it up. Piece of cake after that. Philip.

I agree with PHILLIP8N.

A good box blade is not real expensive. You can loosen the ground with the scarifiers dropped down, then you can move dirt with your bucket.

I use my boxblade for rear ballast when doing loader work.

You may find that leveling the mound can be done with the boxblade alone. (You may be trying to do a job with your bucket that a boxblade is better suited for.)

This is a pile from some leveling work I had done. My intent is to find someone that needs fill dirt. I'll load it into their truck and watch it leave the property.
