I go to FileHippo.com - Download Free Software and do a search for Malwarebytes. Download and install Malwarebytes. Scan your computer. For anti-virus I like Avast's free anti-virus program. Their paid programs do more but so far I have had good luck with their free program.
Another tool I use is CCleaner. It deletes lots of temp file from IE, Chrome and Firefox. Your antivirus and malware scans can go a bit faster if they are not having to scan gigs of temp browser files. There are still plenty of useless files in your downloads folder, probably, that it would not hurt to delete.
Don't forget to empty your recycle bin. No need to scan through files you thought you already deleted. The recycle bin is holding files you have a last chance to recover, or permanently delete.
Important notes. You need to download cleanup tools from safe places. Some locations will fool you and get you to download more malware, or they install other crud that you do not want. So far Filehippo has not jammed me up, but you do have to pay attention to what you are clicking on. I like to save and then install. The theory is that maybe your anti-virus program will inspect the program as it downloads. It may be a weak or unfounded theory.
I have had to download the cleanup tools to a USB thumb drive and then install to the infected computer. The infected computer can prevent the download of cleanup tools or any files.
