Annoying safety feature

I find the operator presence sensor in the seat a PITA on my L4630HST. Since I live on a hill, there is always a slight bit of roll when I dismount, so no matter how perfectly I think I'm positioned to hook up another implement I end up rolling the wrong direction (so the telescopic links are no help) and must inch the tractor forward a smidgin.

But this "safety feature" makes that impossible without remounting. Is there a way to bypass it?

That's a shame ... my BX has always been able to creep with me off of it. Or, when using pallet forks, I can stand up and check alignment. Now, when I say creep, I mean creep. It will only tolerate a hair's width of peddle movement ... a hair more and it tries to die ... interestingly, if I get back off the peddle it will continue to run, so I never have to restart. .. just figured all tractors were the same /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This might sound silly, but I think all you need to do is unplug the seat switch and connect the two wires attached to the harness back together (thus completing the circuit).

This idea assumes the switch is normally open and your body presence closes the circuit.

Pete: On my B7800 you can bypass by tilting the seat forward as you get off. very useful not only when making small adjustments while changing attachments; also when operating some attachments, such as chippers, splitters, etc. that you have to operate from off the tractor.

Personally, I wouldn't bypass the operator presence cutoff entirely since it prevents you from UNINTENTIONALLY leaving the engine running when dismounting and, if I am going to do that, it ought to be a deliberate choice. If I am using the PHD, I don't want the engine running when I dismount or get anywhere near the auger. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I agree with you. Mine does not have it but if it did it would be gone. I can't emagine trying to build fence or dig post holes with the silly thing stopping evrytime i got off of it. I rented a trencher that had one and just hated it. everytime I tried to stand up to see how deep I was trenching the silly thing shut off. I put it in the same category as the silly handle on push mowers that will not let you let go of themower.

Pete,
You sure can bypass the switch by jumping it with a wire. There is a post here somewhere where someone put a switch in line to turn it off and on. Another person mentioned using the loader to move the tractor that inch or two when hooking up implements. That is assuming on yours that when in neutral the seat presents switch allows the tractor to keep running.

When it gets me is while using forks. There are times I want to raise my fanny just a bit to see the tips of the forks and the darn switch shuts me down.

I have it on my 7800 and like it when my wife is mowing, however it is a pain sometimes for me. Sometimes when using the rotary cutter or the FEL w/forks I need to stand up to see where I am at so to speak, so I have learned to put one hand on the seat to hold it down while I stand up. When hooking up implements, if I need to move the tractor forward, I just pull back on the seat and bump the forward pedal with my hand. Not completely safe I know. I don't think I would bypass the feature.

Now I would never recommend defeating lifesaving mechanisms but I can say a heavy duty zip tie holds the switch down nicely.

Simple to bypass or fool into thinking your on the seat. I set my parking brake hard since I lived on a hilly area. I often creep my tractor even though I am not on it for implement hookup but have not defeated the switch. By putting a slight amount of pressure on the seat, it will continue to allow the engine to run. This is where HST really works well. When hooking up my Harley landscape rake, I need to move the tractor, the rake won't budge.

Does this interlock kill the motor? How would you be able to run an attached backhoe, since you sit in the backhoe seat?
