How many have used the Scott's Program for lawn care ? I am more than interested in the results while being used on a Turf Type Fescue Lawn. What kind of results did You get?

Did You have to use additional weed killers?

I would like to hear from as many as possible to know what to expect as I am going to give it a shot this year.

Thanks,
Tom /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tom,
up here in CT the people that use Scotts get good results. REAL dark green and might need to be mowed more often than once a week. Me, I don't use it much, more of a cost thing really. And for me too much dark green, but I mow for a living.

I mulch mow twice a week anyhow. So that is really not an issue as it's about all I have to do.

I do however like the dark green on a lawn & for what I had been paying Trugreen, I can well afford to do My own. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did the do it yourself route with Scotts for years. Never seemed to look as good as the folks that paid Scotts to use the 'same' chemicals to make it look good. They are brutally expensive however. I can afford tem for a acre and a half of grass now. Back to doing it myself.

There are so many lawn chemicals and fertilizers on the market that I stay confused about what's the best. Of course I've always done it myself instead of hiring a lawn service. I've generally avoided Scotts simply because it usually costs a lot more than other brands claiming to have the same ratio of chemicals; however, one time many years ago, a neighbor told me of a store that was trying to get rid of their inventory at the end of the season, and we both bought Scotts at half price, kept it until the next Spring, and used it then. It did seem to do more good than the other brands I had used.

This week, I thought I was going to buy some Scotts fertilizer and was looking at some labelled as 29-3-3. However, for reasons unknown to me, it was labelled for St. Augustine, and specifically said not for use on bermuda (and several other grasses). So yesterday I bought, and applied, Vigaro Weed & Feed that was labelled as 28-3-3 and for "all lawns". I have a mix of St. Augustine and Bermuda, and some other than I can't identify but think it's some type of Fescue. And I have no idea what the difference is between the Scotts and the Vigaro. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I wonder if I should look up some of that? If it would kill Bermuda out I will race to buy it as it has started in My lawn.

I intend to spray it with Ornamec this Spring to TRY to get a handle on it before it takes over everything.

Have used the product for years on my turf and on customer turf. It has been my experience that the the steps work as advertised, and overall has proven to be a good application for various types of lawns. It seems to work well on a rye, blue, fescue turf. The one thing I caution my customers about is: if the current lawn is "weak" it will take time for fully observable improvement. In one case it required three full seasons before the lawn looked and felt good. But, it did improved greatly overall. Hope this answers some of your questions. One big problem we encountered was dealing with grub issues. Grub-X works well, but is costly. However a spore application is even more costly, up front.

I believe Scotts is no better than Ortho, banndini,Best. The results come from a schedule, and paying attention to the lawn. In calif i use 16-16-16 year round on schedule and have been told many times i have the best lawn in the area. time and a little effort beat any brand haphazardly applied

P.s Use of high nitrogen gives you a green[sometimes burnt] lawn not always a healthy lawn

I would not say that. Example Agaway 4-step is not even close to Scotts.

I sorta think the same way, the brother works for NuGro and they make and mix most of the bulk for the major brand names. The tweak factory comes into play when the ratios are bit different. The base chemical/fertilizer is all the same, but how they are all put together makes the difference and how they are released. Scotts has always seemed to do that better than the others.

Especially when it comes to seed. Scotts is by far the best.
