My thoughts exactly. I decided to hold off on lubing the beam. It seems to be working fine without. I considered fabing a detachable rack and still may do that. One thing I found is that it doesn't take long for the wood to pile up. I've been arranging it to help handle and direct the flow of the wood. Steel toes make sense too.
It wasn't convenient to back the splitter into its parking spot so I rigged up this low tech FEL setup. Just a couple of 2by6s and a short chain
