I'm glad you caught it!

18mm wrench saved a potential engine replacement.
Tightening those bolts isnt a permanent save: If it was my machine, i'd take those bolts out one by one, use brake cleaner or some other solvent to degrease it, and put them back in after smearing them with Loc-Tite... Thats a permanent fix: Those threads are continously lubed, and most fastening threads arent 100% tight either.

If you ever need to get them out again, Loc-Tite is boiled out fairly easy with a small torch.

Thats not a permanent fix asv tried every kind of loctite you can get and nothing works you need the new clips that fold back over the bolts after you get them tight . You can get them from asv

Does this bolt go through the steel frame of the skid? If so I'm sure I will just end up tightening then tack welding the bolt. It will be a couple more days before I can actually go take a look at mine but I certainly will after reading this thread.

no it goes through the engine bracket on the rear of the engine

Ah, you mean the old fashioned way, with a thin strip of metal with two bolt holes: You bend the edge of the metal strip against edges of the two bolts.

My tractors diff cage is secured that way.

Did anyone try Nord-Lock washers ? they are the best, we use them to bolt the axles under our wheel loaders.

SUBJECT: Motor mount bolt locking tab

DATE: April 26, 2010

LABOR: Approximately 1 hour
HOURS

ISSUE:

High vibration attachments, including but not limited to mulching head brushcutters, require additional service and regular maintenance as outlined in the owner痴 manual. This vibration can cause bolt loosening, hose loosening, cracks, and other items if left unattended.

ACTION:

Follow all maintenance instructions per the operator's manual, especially regarding bolt checks, hose checks, oil level checks, and addressing any leaks. For added security, Terex has made available for purchase, an additional bolt locking tab (item 3) to further secure the motor mount bolts (item 5) to the engine. These tabs can be added to any of the above machines. The tabs should be installed, farthest away from the fan as shown below (1 tab on each side of the engine). Bolts must be coated with Loctite 545 thread sealant prior to installation. After bolt installation the ends of the tabs can be bent firmly against the bolt. Terex recommends returning the machine to your authorized dealer for installation and following all safety guidelines as outlined in the owner's and service manuals.

Parts: P/N 2040-171 -- Tab locking engine mount (Quantity 2)
P/N 0201-859 -- Engine oil filter (Quantity 1)
Loctite 545 thread sealant

This is not a campaign bulletin and warranty claims will only be
accepted for machines in warranty. Failure caused by unaddressed
maintenance or high vibration attachments may not qualify for warranty.

"For Purchase" ??
Bad publicity and customer relations.

Thanks to QwikDraw, owners know about the problem. Now that ASV is being called out, they will allow owners to purchase the fix.

I sold Bobcat's for over 8 years, own both an ASV and a Bobcat, and visit many equipment forums. I have never seen another OEM post ANY service bulletin/notice, not CAT, Bobcat, Deere, Kubota, etc. None, nada, zilch. And you come on here and bash ASV for being called out.

Do you think they're the only OEM that has failures on their machines or the only OEM who hasn't stepped up to the plate. I could tell you about dozens of "issues" that Bobcat had over the years in which they never said anything about them even though those of us "in the field" knew it was a problem. I don't own an ASV RC100 or PT100, but I at least have to give them some credit for their Service Manager posting on here and identifying himself and then posting a service notice. Good luck to whoever has had this problem with their motor mounts.

The common purpose for a track loader, is to be used as a loader, not to turn it into a self propelled working machine. As ASV notes, the special application (tree mulcher) requires special attention, and therefor they offer the modification kit for sale, not for free. That sounds like logical reasoning, however:

If ASV made this tab washer kit available for free, they would thereby legally admit that there was a design error: That would open the way for many customers that toasted their engine, to claim the damage on ASV even years after it happened. Next to those that claim damage from this particular problem, there will be lots of vultures that toast their engine just because of poor servicing, no oil change, plugged coolers, who will want to exploit this. Even though giving away some tab washers away for free, wouldnt hurt at all, I assume ASV/Terex doesnt want to give this opening for lawsuits by charging a few cents for the kit...

The best example was a local Mercedes dealer where my brother in law worked: a gypsy brought his 25 year old Mercedes 240D in for a major service at the Merc dealership: Merc dealerships arent the cheapest, so it doesnt make sense anyways to get an old car serviced at the dealer. However, after 2 weeks he called and said that his engine was toasted, because the drain plug ran loose, which caused all the oil to leak away and ruin his engine: He demanded a free replacement engine !!

My brother in law, at that time a service manager, said that they didnt even open the drain plug of the sump, but the modern way of quick&clean oil change, is to suck the old oil out with a pump through the dipstick tube !! :D

None the less, i think ASV is handling this issue quite well. I've never seen a service bulletin being publicised on the internet by company staff. Mostly it only gets to a manufacturers authorised dealers, and the machines serviced by owners/operators or non-brand service shops are left hung out to dry. ASV doesnt do that, but notifies everyone... :)

Then he asked if I had fixed the ASV and I replied "yes", he then said I should fax him the invoice and he would warranry the whole cost! I was speechless....this was over $10,000...

When a company stands behind a machine like that, it's saying something. I can't wait to see what the new machine is all about.[/QUOTE]

Wow,,,thats pretty impressive! Did you buy the new Takasmoochi before or after ASV took it in the shorts for you? I sure hope before!

the asv people said the end of the summer

/ Another ASV failure #57
Nah, i wanted to say something, but i think i should shut up about it now. ASV also better stay out of these topics and handle it directly with those to which it concerns... The internet is best for less serious things, not to discuss business matters. ;)

Man, I wish I would have read this before I bought my Terex PT-100G!
From my experience so far, Terex/ASV couldn't care less about you after they get your money.

Now that is an understatement if there is one.
My local dealer don't know nothing about them, neither does their mechanic.
