I bought a new L3010, got it yesterday and the waiting about killed me...my wife thinks I've lost my mind...but it sure is nice to work with good equipment. There's a big difference in my new tractor and my old 1980 model L245DT Kubota which I sold last night. It was a great tractor, 20 years old, no leaks and ran great....hope the new one lasts that long. I've mowed all my grass, the neighbors, tilled up 2 gardens and it's just a great machine. Hope you enjoy your new tractor.

TresCrows, if anyone asks why you are arranging and photographing your stuff in the driveway, you can always say it's for insurance purposes!

Does Kubota put out pinup calendars with various models (of tractor) on them? /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

JonLeonard,

Congrats on a fine deal and a great tractor. I was going to go with the 2410 because of it's great power to size ratio, but got such a good deal on my 2910 I couldn't resist. I really liked the 2410 though, and every time I just can't fit my tractor in somewhere I have to wonder.

Mark, the reason I moved out onto 6 acres was so I could do goofy things (I won't mention the occasional unintended explosions). What I am terribly dissappointed in is that not one single person has commented upon my custom painted Rain Train tractor sprinklers. Yellow simply would not do so mine are orange, all proper tractors are orange even if they only pull a water hose about /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif . J

So why does the LawnBoy look like a JD left outside for 10 years...../w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif?

I was terribly tempted to line up the boys, the rakes, lopping shears, pole saw, bucksaw, chainsaw, wood hooks, shovels, etc, and put up a pic.

That's a handsome machine you have there /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif. I was sort of confused by which way I should lean on the purchase, but I think I'm going L-series. In a few years, maybe "mom" will get her own (although she says she doesn't like orange /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif). Maybe I'll have to take up residence on the JD forums. I was looking at a nice 855 last week........

1,000,000 apologies/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. I have a "Rickle" given to me by a neihgbor. No idea where it came from, but the old 3.5 hp Briggs is familiar enough. I've never paid for a push mower - people just keep giving them to me. I clean the plugs, scuff up the iron on the flywheel, and offer them back. They've usually gotten a super Mowmatic 3000 from the local Big Square Store by then, and don''t want their poor little rusty orphan anymore /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif.

I'm sure you're a fine, upstanding citizen, who wisely chose that Lawn Boy for it's superior technical specifications, and value. Too bad you missed the Husqvarna's when you went for the saws, though /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

(This from a guy who just retired his McCulloch Pro-Mac 650 after 20 years.)

The story behind the Lawnboy goes way back when I was in Houston. I had a Lawnboy that was given to me and had used for a number of years. I rebuilt the engine or somesuch and while using it the cylinder blew off and went tumbling through the yard. I was rather ill at the time from a mysterious ailment, doc did some tests and said I had Leukimia. I asked him if you don't suppose it was the fumes from the paint I had breathed a few months back went I painted an old sports car I had. He said--no--I was very sick and bla, bla, bla. I never went back, never saw another doctor except for my flight physicals--but anyway I told my wife to go get us a lawn mower one Sat morning when I was feeling to sickly to go for myself and since that was the only mower a city girl from New Orleans had ever seen predictably she came back with a green one just like the other one--a Lawnboy. That was Summer 1982, ol girl is still ticking (the mower). There was a Lawnboy program at the time that said keep her 30 years and get a new one for free (we are still talking mower), I still got the paperwork and in the Summer of 2012 I intend to get my new one--suckers gonna loose that bet.
Oh, I does got a new Husky roun'hea somewheres, the little orange Sthil dates back to the early 80's also and it has cut a lot of wood. J

To stay "on topic" I have to say that I made an offer on a '96 L2900DT last week; it's a FST trans with a loader (I should say FEL in this group), ag tires, and 157 hours. Got some great info from kubmech, too.

I noticed that your stuff is in excellent shape. Not surprised to hear you can paint. I'd like to discuss that further with you; I've got a 5hp/20 gal Craftsman compressor, a bunch of Chinese air tools (Harbor Freight Salvage, a.k.a. Harbor Frieght Tools nowadays), and I'd like to use it for re-finishing. I'm pretty good with surface prep and have good success with spray bombs right now on smaller jobs. Someday I'll put the old McCulloch back in shape - it's a heavy, strong saw (sounds like a Harley next to the modern, high RPM units - weighs about as much, too). I got a big box of new parts from a dealer who was my Dad's neighbor and retiring. There's also an old baby 10 or 1010 out in the garage, with a 10 or 12" bar - very dangerous because everyone "one-handed" them when pruning. I had an old Stihl basket case from my Father in law, but it went away since I'm on a non-operable equipment reduction plan, rightly and justly encouraged by my lovely wife. I got the Husky (357XP) last year becasue it's what all the pro use up here. I don't really see big diffs between Husky, Stihl, or Jonsereds - the Canadians like the latter.

If all goes well, I'll be painting a few pieces of 3-pt equipment from my Dad's place soon. Just waiting to see what colors I need.

BTW - glad to see YOU'RE still ticking - a work friend just lost a brother that way.
