Another build a Power Rake idea

I have free access to an old 7 foot flail mower, think it might be a Mott but not sure. Thinking of scavenging what I can off the flail mower to give me a pretty good start on a power rake build. The mowers drum already has teeth (so to speak) in the way of flail mounts, I have a good gear box and the rest of the drive can be utilized from the mower. Not sure about a belt drive on a power rake, maybe can find chain sprockets to fit the shafts if the belt isn't up to the task.

Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on this idea.

Anything is possible. I don't know that a belt would be a problem power wise, but if the bottom pulley is bigger than the drum you will have to do something different. Do you know what the gear ratios are? I believe Harley Rakes run a 2:1 gear ratio in the gear box so about around 270 RPM drum on a 540 PTO. You'd also need a slip clutch if the mower doesn't have one.

You would have to work out the RPMs and your PTO horsepower to determine how much torque is present to have an idea whether the belt is heavy enough.

Thanks for the info, not sure how the pulleys are set up haven't removed the pulley cover yet. On my JD flail mower the belt does a pretty good job of acting as a slip clutch. Of course it could also work too good as a slip clutch on a power rake. When I get my cultivator project out of the way I'll pull it out of the weeds and take a better look at what I might be starting with. I will be putting it behind a Ford 3000 Diesel, 38 PTO HP.
