A while back I started a thread with a Subject line something like "One Dealer Down..." I think it was on the Kubota forum, since I was looking only at Kubotas then. Since then I've widened my search.

I've got a job, so it ain't easy for me to go visit a tractor place between 8 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday. With parenting and family obligations, even Saturday can be tough. Today I found myself with a little free time on my hands, so I decided to go visit the only Kioti dealership in the area. Yeah, I knew they wouldn't be open, but I thought I could still have a peak, see what they look like.

So I headed up to Poland, Maine, about half an hour from here, home of Gary's Garage, a Kioti dealer. Long driveway, with a rope across it. So I parked my truck and the end and wandered up. The driveway was lined with old rusty backhoes, excavators, etc. I caught a glimpse of some bright orange up ahead, right at the end of the drive, so I picked up the pace. Got about 50 feet from the orange when I heard a voice. Looked up. Turns out there's a house there, and there's a guy with no shirt on looking out what seems to be his bedroom window. "That rope across the driveway is there for a reason." Must've been Gary.

I respect people's privacy, as a rule. I'd never roam through someone's yard on purpose. But I didn't really expect to find this guy's house at the end of the driveway at a tractor dealership. More than once when I was in the market for a car I've wandered through car lots during off hours. I didn't see the harm in taking a quick peak at what might've been my future tractor.

Well, I turned around and walked back down the drive, got in my truck, and left. Guess I won't be buying a tractor from Gary. On a positive note, right across the street from Gary's place was a sign that said "pure maple syrup." Turned out to be maple syrup day or something, and they had free samples, ice cream sundays, and so on. So I stopped in and had a sunday. It was good.

JCA,
Some smaller dealers will operate out of their homestead. When I was out looking, fortunately I spotted the houses before I walked in /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm with you, Jim. That would be another dealer down that I wouldn't have to consider anymore.

JCA You should give the guy a chance. Maybe if you would have explain yourself you would have received a better welcome. You dont know maybe this guy got rip off lately. If your serious about buying, this guy could turn out to be a great dealer. cag

I have to agree with Cag, give him a chance. After all, there WAS a rope covering the driveway. I don't agree with the way the man dealt with your appearance, he could have said, "May I help you?" but then, not all people are all that good with social graces. And, you don't say that you explained you were just looking. It's a two way street in my book. John

Jim,

I would tell him where to go!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

And I agree about going through car dealerships "after hours". I have been at tractor dealers "after hours" too /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

Move on, forget him.

RedDog,
When I went to Kiohio's place I just pulled up in the drive. THEN I found out real quick that the Mrs. Kiohio had no place to park when she ruturned from town. She pulled off into the graveled area that I should have parked in /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
She was real nice about it though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree. EVERYBODY can have bad days. Maybe he did. I would give him a call and see how he is on the phone with you. That would give me my answer.

Red dog if Jim wants to buy a fine tractor such as the kioti my guess would be that he would have to drive what 1 2 3 hours more and this probably just because of a misunderstanding.Doesn't make sense to me I guess he could always buy the other orange cag

I would give the guy a call and see what he has to offer. He may be much cheaper than the guy who has a real dealership and large lot to pay taxes on and such. It doesn't hurt to try. A call is cheap. You may wind up with a super deal.
