Is this a scam? Another ebay scam

I don't think so. You should wish you were doing this good.

I have sold once and bought several times on EBay, always using PayPal. I've yet to have a real problem.

But I agree there are major problems with both companies, and EBay owns PayPal, so we might as well consider it as one. The EBay forums are filled with users who are really, really angry with the company. From what I can tell, most of the anger appears to be legitimate.

EBay seems not to care. They are doing so well financially that I think they believe they don't have to care. The only reason they can get away with it is the fact that they are really the only game in town. It's a lousy attitude that one day may come back to bite them where it hurts. I certainly hope so.

In the meantime though, the CEO, Meg Whitman, is so highly thought of by Wall Street that Disney tried to get her as its new CEO. Personally, I was sorry she didn't accept. I dislike the Mouse that much.

Posting about eBay scams on this forum is getting old.

Looked a little bit ago. Ebay has already pulled the add.

I have been out on Ebay since 1997 and the people are getting bad, real bad. People apparently can't read the auctions, do not pay or can't understand Ebay polices.

Even my wifes company she workes for stopped selling due to people “not getting it”. I know people that have thousands of feedback and even they are stopping or slowing down since they are tired of the non payers etc.

I never stated the financials of it.

Lets see, if the item never arrives you file a complaint to Paypal. They look into it and it takes up to 15 to 20 business days for them too look into it. Now this is after waiting and waiting for the item to be shipping to you.

Side note: after 60 days your credit card people are going to do nothing. It is too long in time duration as outlined by Visa or MC.

Next, in my issue, they found the 2 sellers took me for a ride. So paypal stated, the seller owns you money; however, when they get money if their Paypal account they will pay (refund) you the funds. The loop hole is the seller just signs up for a new account and get to keep the money. Been though this twice and the wife once.

So far we just got one back (#4) with the time line. I had to call my debit card people since Paypal stated the same old situation......they own you money, but....

I also saw these scams on Ebay and since it stated the location was Kennesaw, GA, which is about 30 minutes away from my home, I sent an e-mail to the seller to find out if I could come see this tractor he had for sell. The reply I recieved informed me the tractor would be shipped by air cargo - Whoa!! Not even close to what I ask. As the saying goes, "if it's to good to be true it probably isn't!". I wish Ebay could get rid of these jerks but since posts are handled by computer it's hard for them to police the millions of posts that they receive. I have bought several things through Ebay and have been very satisfied with the transactions. In a barrel this big you are always going to have a few bad apples!

You're right. Doing the math, according to their earnings press release they average over 4 MILLION posts PER DAY (1.4 billion per year). It would be cost prohibitive for them to staff up so that every post could be reviewed for possible scams. If even 1/10 of 1% of the daily posts were scams that would be 4000 which is probably a high number. Since using the Ebay service is a "buyer beware" proposition, it's doubtfull that anything will ever be done.

I've used Ebay many times to buy and sell. Never had a problem, not once. You hear about stuff like this, but they are one in 100,000....200,000 transactions. It's just like anything else (evening news) you tend to get fed all the bad stuff. What about the millions of successful transactions each year....Do you homework, ask questions and you'll be fine.

Jim,
I agree with you 100%. I have sold over 2500 items and purchased over 1000 items and only had to go to paypal twice for refunds. I had both those refunds within days, you just have to follow their (paypal's) guidelines. It's been a great source of extra income to help pay for my tractor addiction /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
