Is this a scam? Another ebay scam

/ Another ebay scam #21
I agree. Refunds are if the seller sends money back. That can be as fast as a few minutes to a few hours/days.

Disputing a purchase you made using PayPal takes, "......it may take at least 30 days to complete our investigation and resolve the dispute".

Wait till the IRS gets involved in Ebay (for income).

Again, been out there selling and buying since 1997 and the morons are worse now then ever. When I first started it was great. Now the scammers are more then ever and the non-payers are more and more. Most people out there can't read I guess. You can ask quetions etc till you are blue in the face but it takes both parties to complete the auction.

Most people think it is not a huge issue (scammers) till it happens to them.

Ebay can take action.

(1) Create intelligent ad scanners that look for key words and phrases that smell like a scam. How many times have you seen an ad that has "....do not email me through Ebay" or ..."free shipping" for a $$$ tractor or vehicle.

(2) Charge the listing fee(s) up front before the ad is placed. If the ad is disputed (read scam), do NOT refund the listing fee. Hit the scammer where it hurts the most, in the pocketbook. This will not hurt a legit seller at all.

(3) Also, I wish Ebay would have a direct link button on the listing's page instead of having to click through multiple pages to report a questionable listing.

What kind of lame statement is that?

Ebay is a multi-BILLION dollar publically traded company. They have auditors and such. Unless they are doing something underhanded or over/understating earnings the IRS is NOT going to get involved in disputes.

Where YOU have to be careful is if the IRS decides to start auditing those frequent sellers on Ebay. That's when the fun will really start, and that's where the IRS will make same money for the Treasury.

Nice idea but how long would it be before the scammers figure out how to word the listing to get around the software scan?

This is probably the most easiest to implement, at least to raise a flag to Ebay that something might be amiss.

However, as I stated previously, I don't think Ebay will spend the $$$ and resources to weed out listings that represent only fractions of fractions of a percent of the total daily listings. It does not make good business sense to do so. It's more cost effective in the grand scheme of things (4 million listings per day) to deal with the few complaints that come in.

That's right. They are going after the SELLERS who are not reporting their profits as income. A quick court order or subpoena and Ebay will give up all the real names and addresses of their sellers to the IRS. Let the games begin. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

BINGO, it is like Adult content is to not be sold in normal auctions. Yea, that will never happen.

Ebay is great but there CS is poor due to the volume out there. Even Paypal is worse now that Ebay bought them.

Ebay does have software to scan for "Keywords" but many times they miss auctions.

You will see some people stop selling ASAP! This will be great!

Mike,
I claim all my ebay income, but I also know people that look at it this way. Do you or anyone else claim their income from yard sales and the like??? When you sell a tractor and make a profit, do you claim it??? There's many ways to look at this and I'm sure that is why the IRS has not gotten involved, JMO.

Mike,
In both of my cases I spoke with paypal on the phone and got them resolved quickly. The cases involved not receiving my items. The seller did not use delivery confirmation and the items just never got to me. If you as a seller can't prove that you sent the item, they (paypal) will always cite with the buyer. I honestly can say that I have had no major problems with ebay or paypal.

I agree. And all the times I (buyer) was found to in the "green" and was to get the money. The problem is all the seller removed the money before the dispute was completed. When a buyer disputes anything the seller gets emails stating this. So they can remove $$$$. No money in account means no money for the buyer.

Mike,

"wait till the IRS gets involved in ebay"

Have not read the rest of the post yet (someone might have chimed in already), but was watching the news the other morning and there was a segment about people selling items on ebay.

There is already discussion about having to disclose these sales on your next years taxes. Sounds like the government has already thought about it!

Mike,
That was very unfortunate in your case. My cases were totally different. Your seller was definatley out to scam their buyers. I think ebay and paypal are both understaffed and need more employees to look into these situations. As I said before, I have gotten alot of fantastic buys on ebay in the last 4 years with no major problems.

I agree and I also have found some bargins out there. They are few and far between but they are out there.

The problem like most online places or business is their CS is poor. I even went back yet again to Vonage due to my high phone rate and there CS is the worst I have ever seen.
