We have what we call bull nettle here that has roots about that size. The top part of the plant (all that is above ground) has stinging needles all over stalk, leaves, fruit, etc. Real painful if you brush up against it. Is that what you have?

They make these things called plows,,,been around for awhile,,about 300 dollars will get you one,,hard to make,,,than,,you just turn the dirt over,[they are called,,what else,,turning plowes],,,your yanmare will pull it no problem,,,thingy
