I'd buy whichever of the red ones gave me the best zen. I'd skip any of the subcompacts - not enough traction....Mahindra Nope
OK, thanks. Excuse my admitted ignorance but why not a Mahindra? That's one of the ones I actually tested and it was comfortable, roomy and seemed to work well. It had "cruise control" and in 2WD I could actually skid steer it with it's 2 brake pedals and the loader was pretty intuitive to use. Plus it's one of the dealers that fairly local at just over 40 miles. My only complaint was the hydraulic hoses going to the loader controls were rather exposed underneath. I'd have to fabricate some sort of skid plate for them. So, talk me away from the Mahindra.

I've never cared for their quality. Better than a Belarus, but ...

Looks like the Kioti might have a stronger loader.

How do you guys feel about the compact Massey Fergurson models, current and 17, 18 and 19 leftovers?

I have the exact same Mahindra opinion!

I think their compact tractors are fine, but the economy models are kind of Dorky looking with their bug eyed lights .

Tractors do not have model years. Models continue with same model designations year after year until a significant engineering change is incorporated into the tractor, then the model number changes. The last time there were a lot of model changes was in 2009 - 2013 during which engines were significantly changed as Tier IV pollution technology phased in.

Ask yourself: The dealer is in business. Why are these faded paint machines still sitting? What has been unacceptable to years of tractor shoppers about these unsold machines?

Why not a Mahindra?

Mahindra makes the heavier tractors. "Old school", low tech.
Mahindra's compact tractors have been supplied by a number of other tractor manufacturers over the years.
Some chance of evaporation of parts from the Mahindra dealer if Mahindra changes compact tractor suppliers.

Here is a 2009 thread. Mahindra's compact tractor suppliers may have re-mixed since 2009.

You can research origin of individual Mahindra models on TractorData.com:

If you want a TYM it will likely be cheaper from a TYM dealer or from Rural King, rather than badged as a Mahindra. Note: Rural King specs Yanmar engines in compact RK/TYMs.

The two tractor brands which out-source very, very few tractor components are Kubota and Kioti.

I'm looking at out of state dealers who offer delivery.

Anyone have problems getting their tractor serviced from dealers they didn't buy from?

Well, I was one of those people who went with a better deal from hours away from home and now I am having a hard time getting service on a warranty covered issue. Has anyone else ran into this problem? At the time 4000$ seem like a good idea to drive 6 hours away. Now I'm not so sure

The out of State dealer I'm looking at is for a brand I have a dealer for fairly locally (None are real local) but they deal mainly in heavy construction equipment but should be able to do warranty work and order parts for a compact.

Spoke to one of my former coworkers today. He's had an LS for about 7 years. A 38hp or so 2WD. Basically light use of mowing with a finish mower. Said the biggest thing he's had to replace was the water pump. He did say it came with a junk battery. He does have to travel 100+ miles for parts but does his own work on it. The Mahindra was considerably more roomy and comfortable, at least the one I tried out at that dealer that was comparable size to the Mahindra.

I still have no idea which way to go. Wife likes the Mahindra. I like the way it's laid out too. On paper I'm kinda liking the Massey, or at least the 17 thru 19 leftovers the out of State dealer has. I plan to go to Orlando tomorrow to actually see one in person. Other than the sub-compacts I can't find any New Hollands to look at, although I liked the sub-compact. There's a sort of local dealer but he didn't have any and was just trying to sell Kioti.
