In Saskatchewan last week a 10 year old boy in his yard was killed by dogs.:(

Looks like it's time to get the "puppy in distress" call out, grab the .223 and go take out some dogs. Don't beat me up too much...some things just have to be "handled". Oh, I jumped the "gun". They've already been "saved" by animal control.

I would not hesitate to shoot a dog or dogs in my yard if they threatnen anyone, particularly a child or woman. But, since I live in the country, I can get away with it. OTOH, I have two strays that I've adopted that someone had put out and they are the most loyal, loving dogs I've ever owned. They watch my place well, keep the deer out, know the vehicles of my friends, and really, really look after my wife when she's outside.

BTW Jay, love you LD quote and, ...., the names of my two dogs are "Woodrow" and "Gus."

I can relate! Below is a stray. He wouldn't attack anyone. Maybe a poor not-so-fast rabbit!:D He's a lot of "help" at feed time!:D

Yes, I like old Gus and Woodrow as well! Two of my favorites!

/pine, The one below doesn't fit any mad-dog beagle story!:D

I saw a story on our local news last night that a postman was refusing to deliver mail in a neighborhood where a pitbull had attacked him about 10 times at random intervals. There was legal action being brought against the owner of the dog to remove the animal. I can't say that I blame the postal worker at all. I don't think I'd have given the dog as many chances as he did. I do think it's interesting that all the neighbors suddenly became more interested in getting the dog removed when they quit getting their mail delivered. Too bad they didn't take the same interest before it came to that. It's one thing to be afraid and want to have an animal to help make you safe. It's quite another thing when your animal starts threatening other innocent people.

EDIT: It seems it was 8 attacks instead of 10. Here's the story.

Not beating up, but there is an endless supply of the idiots who own these dogs. I think we need to take 'aim' at the source of the problem or it will always be the same problem over and over.

The article said the dog owner's 'could be ticketed'? How about - they could spend 10 years in jail? I'm sure every injury lawyer within 50 miles is salivating, but that is not going to prevent more idiots from creating the same circumstances.

How to reach these people who don't realize they have created and are feeding a time bomb is beyond me. It would be interesting to know the history of those dogs.

Anybody think it would be worth it to force dog owner's to take a 'dog safety' course before they could legally own a dog? It would be similar to a hunter's safety course. I hate to think more regulation is the answer, but we are fighting ignorance here. It could be funded through existing dog license fees. The answer to ignorance is education - if it 'takes'

Dave.

Jay, when I saw that picture of your beagle in the snow, I told my wife that the perfect caption would be, "Can we go inside now?"
