I used the deck yesterday, cuts fine but seems to be awful noisy. It turns freely by hand and does not sound like bearings are bad. Also the gear box runs awfully warm, almost too hot to touch, drained the oil, it looked like it had a little moisture in it. Put fresh 85w140 still runs plenty warm. Would the bearings on the gearbox need replaced? Maybe the deck bearings? Any info is greatly appreciated.

How do you like the 455?
I'm looking at one for $3500 at a JD Dealer.

Like it very well. Smooth runner, plenty of power, uses about 1/2gal/hr fuel while mowing. Aws steer is nice especially with the 60 inch deck, can easily mow around power poles. $3500 seems like a good price if it has been maintained. I would say go for it.
