Yep.. the best safety device we have sets on our shoulders and holds up our hat.

Most safety devices are really good ideas -- but they don't substitute for intelligent operation.

No amount of lawyer switches and lawyer stickers will make up for common sense.

I try to be as safe as possible by wearing the appropriate clothing including safety glasses, hearing protection, dust protection when needed, looking in the mirrors, etc, etc, etc; but accidents do happen to the best of us.

Since we don't have kids or pets, I intend to disable the RIO switch on my lawn tractor as I find it a nuisance.

When I do work for neighbors that have kids and/or pets, I tell them to keep them inside out of harm's way. I tell them with the motor running and the hearing protection I wear that there is a good chance I won't hear someone out of my immediate field of vision. Hitting concealed PVC and plastic irrigation boxes with the rotary cutter sounds the same to me as weeds.

I digress a bit; but I tell clients that I expect them to mark items such as clean-outs, vents, irrigation boxes, etc. Although I try to spot them, I won't be responsible for their lack of effort to mark them. It's not practical to remember where each client has each item in their lots.
