I had posted Pics in the General Tractor Forum before see this FORD Forum... I just Picked the FORD Tractor up from a neighbor. Story is, she was basically pushed aside when they got their new KOBOTA and has been sitting for 5 Years. I decided to take a gamble on it, knowing that the Rear Tires were worth the Price... I Got it for $500 DELIVERED! I am really a IH Man and know Very Little about FORDS. The attached Pic is the ID info under the Hood. I ran the #'s and NONE make any sence at all. I don't know where to look for any other ID #'s. Can anyone help me ID this Tractors Model and Year Please.

Link kirk posted has all the info. Model code is D11223c
D....68 or newer 4000-series
11.....LCG (low center of gravity
2.......Gas
3.......Live PTO
C.......8-speed trans.

2J26b is the units build date
2 = 1972
J = Sept
26 = 26th
B = dayshift

Serial number confirms the date. 1972 started with C327 and ended with C367

So..............you have a 1972 ford 4000. Nice tractor if you get her running

so.. no gear reduction rear axle.. and dry brakes like a 3000, not to mention the radius rods.

how much benefit is there in one of these over a 3000.. 17 ci ?

Other than a handful of ponies, no advantage. And the LCG part is less thna ideal for some jobs.

Ahh. Ok, wasn't sure if 201 was out before the 4600.

Thanks

Ahh ok.. So same time the 232/256 on the 5000 probably.

You know what I always wondered about.. On the prior models..

134 CI gas/lpg. 144ci diesel, 172ci gas,lpg,diesel.

Why the 144? But no change to the 172?

These are the things that keep me up at night ;)

Only a guess but I bet the 134D (in development) was so enemic they had to open it up a little to get some power out of it.

Great job getting her running...Now take the mask off :D

You got a steal on that tractor, and have a feeling you will be impressed with the Ford 3 cylinders low rpm torque and pulling power.

Great score :thumbsup:

Probably was about like a diesel n.

The 172d, iirc, is rated less hp than a 172 gasser, especially the big manifold/carb hungry ones.
