I just purchased a anti scalp roller for my 6' rfm. Is there a rule of thumb as to what height that I place it at. It's going on the front middle section.
Thank You

Anyone? or maybe someone can measure their exiting one. I'm looking for a distance from the bottom lip of the frame/shroud to the bottom of the roller.
thank you

The ones I've owned/seen (I no longer have one to measure for you) were set so that roughly half to three quarters inch (no more than 1") of the roller extended below the front center deck housing. It's really only there to prevent damage from accidental high-centering. Usually the tractor operator knows where the humps are, and steers so that one set of side wheels or the other "rides the hump". Of course, I'm sure there will exceptions for those that set the mowers to leave a very short cut.

I have found that on my lawn, those are a waste of money. I mow at about 4" and my terrain is not competely smooth. I would recommend trying it without the roller first. Maybe you could get your money back.

I added the floating attachments to my rfm, which were not on it when purchaced. When I did, I started getting scalping (i.e. just nose digging from the front center). Ordered and installed the roller. I mow fairly high but have a lot of uneven areas. I'm at work but, if helpful, I'll take a pic when I get home and post it.
Haven't had any scalping since installing the roller.

Thanks for all the replies. I am getting scalping and the middle of front deck digging in right now. A pic would be great, if it's not to much trouble, could you through a ruler or tape measure in there?
Thank you very much for the help

Sorry the lighting and angle are not great. RFM is up on blocks with sun from the back. If you can't make it out, the front/bottom lip of the deck is about a 1/16" to maybe an 1/8" in off the block. the bottom of the roller measures about 3/4" below that (think you've already got that advise, this only confirms with pic). As I said, since putting on the roller, I've had no scalping problems.

From a little further back, for perspective. Again, sorry for the sun and angle.
