One thing to watch out for.. If you have big ants like bull ants invading rotten siding.. watch out for termites.. the ants will go in looking for them.

Are any of these sprays or chemicals harmful to our family pets - dogs and cats? Do you need to keep them locked up for a couple of hours while the chemicals dry or are absorbed?

i probably have the same situation here, the neighbor had a bad termite infestation several years ago..which is why i keep my contract..but it doesn't cover ants: they want $25 a month to cover ants and other pest.

TALSTAR is an awesome product i actually saw a stream of ants leaving the area that i spread it. Plus its safe near pets. I got a bag off of ebay.

I've use it all and this is the only stuff that ends ant problems.
I sprinkled it around the mound and all, and I do mean all the ants took the "food" down the hole to feed the queen. The sprinkeled "food" was gone in minutes, as I watched.
The next day the ants that could still work were carrying dead ants out of the mound and piling them up around the mound - the next day there wasn't an ant to be found.
The stuff is VERY EXPENSIVE, but it doesn't just kill the ants you see, it kills the ones way down under the ground, and the kills the queen.

Naturally, the queen eats the bait and dies. Which means she can't lay any more eggs. And the mound does not survive. End of problem!

If I ddin't see it with my own eye's, I wouldn't have believed it. It was more fun than burning them with a magnifying glass when I was a kid.

Another time I placed the bait several feet from a nother mound and watched just one ant grab it, but somehow told his friends where the food was, then they all came over to feast - same results, next day gone.

I even take it camping with me and sprinkle around the tires of the motorhome.

Kendall69's method is the only one that really will work, and for the reason he says - you have to get the poison down into the nest and to the queen. Kill all the queens, kill the nest...they all die.

Bifen IT = Talstar without the brand name and generally less $$. When it dries it is safe for pets to be on the surfaces sprayed.

Permethrin is fine for most animals.. check your labels.. / concentrations.. etc.

FYI, if you ever had a kid with head lice and used products like NIX to treat it, well, then you've used Permethrin 1% before.

Or, have you ever had a relative be diagnosed with "scabies"? The treatment for that is prescription Permethrin cream.....5%!

I kind of doubt your going to hurt Fido or Spot by letting them run through an area treated with Permethrin.
