I've NEVER been able to find any used swage blocks :(.

Common consensus is they are like anvils. You don't find THEM, they find YOU. :D

You're An anvil collector I see ! I have never seen one like the square piece that I know of. All I have ever seen are the traditional types.
There is a guy that has written a book about the mousehole forge that built the anvil I have MouseHole Forge by Richard Postman. I'm going to order it.

I don't have an anvil yet but I keep my eyes peeled.

homemade anvil.. Pretty cool. How did you make the hardy (hardie) hole in that ?

I torched out a 1 5/8" square hole so that I could drop and weld in a short length of 1 1/14" square receiver tubing.

I've standardized all my hardies and accessories to having 1 1/4" square shanks.

My guess is that it much much harder to find an old, made in USA anvil around the PNW vs. NE due to historical reasons.

I gave up - long ago - looking for an old anvil here in the PNW. I welded a two foot chunk of railroad track on my steel top welding table. I don't know if it "rings" but it certainly works well when I need to mash things. And no, I don't have a pic of it.

Here's ours. I can't remember the name on it. I cleaned it a couple years ago and rattle canned it black after making the stand for it. The stand has a square peg welded on it the anvil sits on, that's the only thing holding it in place.

I took some scrap today and they had this Hardee trailer sitting at the scrap pile. I ask if someone brought it for scrap, they said yes. I ask what could I buy it for? They said it has to go through the shredder, we don't sell things otherwise. It was a decent trailer, I sold one just like it years ago for $2,200.00. I felt sick to my stomach thinking about it going through the shredder. They just unhooked it, still had air in the tires, safety chains hanging etc.

Do they require titles for trailers in your state ? May have something to do with it.. Other than that. I have no idea why they couldn't have sold it to you for scrap price
